The Labour Government

The chancellor's Budget could reduce inflation by 0.5% next year, a Bank of England deputy governor has said.

Clare Lombardelli told the Commons' Treasury committee that measures announced by Rachel Reeves in November will slow the rate at which prices are increasing from April 2026.

Speaking to MPs, Ms Lombardelli said capping fuel duty, cutting energy prices and freezing rail fares would bear down on price increases.

Official forecaster the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has said the measures in Reeves' Budget will reduce inflation by 0.4%.

UK inflation currently stands at 3.5%, with OBR forecasts suggesting it will drop to 2.5% next year, before returning to the Bank of England's 2% target from 2027.

Interesting, I thought we were currently at around 5% due to how the media portrayed the last inflation numbers in November, but 5% was for food only, with the overall percentage being 3.6.

Still high but good to see it dropping quite rapidly and maybe a drop in interest rates will follow.

"Could" reduce, what she really means is won't.

So when forecasts suit your agenda you pounce and when they don't, you Lol - OK

There is only one Lol here
But he ran a very, very, sucessful business so will be able to see all the holes in the comment:

"capping fuel duty, cutting energy prices and freezing rail fares would bear down on price increases".

No doubt he'll be along soon to argue that the opposite of the above is the case.

How does the OBR forecast expect the Budget to influence inflation in 27 & 28?

How has the OBR forecast for household disposable income changed as a result of Reeves’ decision to extend the income tax threshold freeze?

Imagine being desperate for the economy to tank because a party you don't like is in charge.

Thats where politics are nowadays thanks to Brexit. As it became plain it was a crock of shit its supporters doubled and tripled down in support of it claiming it just wasn't done right deflecting to Covid then Russia/Ukraine rather than accepting their Brexit vote was stolen by means of fraudulent information than attacking the liars and getting behind a re-join campaign. They are literally happy to see their country lose out because for some reason be it an OBR forecast or voting to introduce restrictions on your own ability to move around Europe because somehow they think their belief proves them to be correct

Politics was like that for a long time before Brexit. People generally support one side or the other, like it’s football, everything your club does is great, everything your rival does is rubbish.

Not strictly true. There are those that moan whoever is in government and believe that their next protest vote will be the one to smash the system.

Well considering we had a coalition from 2010-2015, without putting too fine a point on it-that's just bollocks. Oh, for those heady days ;-)

Just listening to Streeting’s statement to the house. Very fair offer to end JD strike and delay impending strike action. Tried hard but BMA in no mood to delay the action.
Streeting and Raynor have made a leadership pact.

That speech was projecting his intentions.

Just watched the first 40 mins of the 4 hour debate on digital IDs. I have to say, Jeremy Corbyn is a shit leader but he really stole the show with his points on the debate.
