Media discussion - 2025/26

That's why I turn on a couple of minutes before kick off, go off to fix a coffee and maybe a sarnie at HT, and turn off immediately the final whistle sounds. I can’t be doing with inane punditry filled with bitterness.
Pretty much my viewing routine too. I may sometimes have the commentary very low, I turn it up when we score to hear their pain. It's a bit of a head feck though listening on the app which is sometimes slightly ahead of TV, and other occasions lags behind.

I spend my time before hand clearing cache on the stick so don’t have to listen to the their bitter discussion. Unbelievable last night that an English club was a goal up in Madrid and the scouse mafia they had in the studio were discussing what Madrid had to do get back into it.

This should really be in the Stupid things that bug you off topic thread, but

why do pundits in their 40's, 50's, 60's refer to current players by their first name, especially when the players concerned appear for a "glamour club". It's not as if they are mates. Tthey're footballing generations apart.

Last night, I kept hearing about Kylian, Trent, Xabi, Cristiano, Jude

Then there's
Bruno
Wayne
Mo
Gareth

They've all got surnames. Use them. I dont know of any other Kylians, or Trents etc, so it's pretty obvious who they're referring to

Agree.

“Fletch” is a pub bore who won’t stop rabbiting when you’re trying to concentrate

Also, on 90mins he said “what do you make of Real Madrid” - I’m no card carrying conspiracy theorists but if Liverpool or United were winning away at Real Madrid, I don’t believe the commentators would ask about a Spanish team rather than the English team they are covering
5 Live was similar after the game. 80% going on about RM failings. TBH I don’t mind it. I get a bit antsy when these f***ers give City praise.

Tbh I think it's seen as normal that City beat RM nowadays. If that's arsenal last night the sports media would be gushing.

I think it's partly that and partly that there's a palpable fear of City at the moment. As if they ignore it it will go away.

Its how they lose titles to City.

'The Bernabau is a hard place to come but Manchester uni... City won.'

Fuck off you into rag biased bitch
I normally mute HT but my feed last night didn't show adverts or studio punditry so just left it while browsing on here.

What is the first thing I hear as the teams returned to the pitch from I assume she is the anchor?

How can Real get back into/win this game.

BBC choosing not to write much about us winning in Madrid, preferring instead to focus on Alonso potentially losing his job.

Imagine if any other English side had come from a goal down to beat Real Madrid away. There’d be at least three articles in praise of them.

Instead there’s two on some **** from Arsenal getting a couple of goals against a bang average set of Belgians.

Pre-match preview was focused on Alonso. The post-match preview is also on Alonso. It's as if the reporter is a Real Madrid fan.

Fucking muen scores for united’s win v mighty 2 points wolves 74 for the starting 11, City’s win at real fucking madrid only merits a combined 73. Well done rags for having a better midweek than us, apparently
What possessed you after we've just won away at Real Madrid to get the calculator out, log onto a rag fanzine website, and compare how they rate rag players versus how they rate City's? They're not exactly going to be saying how good their noisy neighbours are, are they?

Not the lengthiest article by the BBC, despite the significance of the win. Pretty devoid of emotion too.

Why does it also feel like it's written by AI?

BBC News - Analysis: Guardiola's men keep cool in cauldron

Compare it to the essay Liverpool got for their win over Madrid last month:
I don't think AI would have called Pep a Spaniard.

The media had billed it up as a game city couldn't lose last night with everything that was being talked about in Madrid. They had set us up for the fall and were ready to rip us apart wen we did. Madrid 1 up everything going to plan what happened after totally ruined 3 or 4 days of planning for them.

Fuck the lot of them, they all struggle with bias towards the team's they have more in common with and I would be the same if I'm being honest.
I get my pleasure from my retired workmates who were mostly red supporters saying openly that their grandkids are City fans and we live 150 miles away and some have been to matches.
The future is Blue don't worry about that.
