Should National Service be mandatory ?

First of all what is his generation? Secondly how have they screwed the country? If he’s a similar age to me and born in the 60s then his generation grew up walking to school, having hopefully one holiday a year in the uk, grew up in the 80s with massive unemployment, then hopefully got work and helped build the country through the 90s and 2000s, contributing tax towards a state pension and building the nhs to a level unknown in the past, bringing prosperity to many through those times, helping secure us in the Cold War and eventually winning that. His generation have brought us the technology only dreamed off in sci fi movies to allow us to supposedly have a better life. It’s only in the last 5/10 years it’s gone to rat shit through the greed of bankers and a pandemic, non of which most of his generation had anything to do with. His generation also had to pay off the debt of ww2 caused by the previous generation but they didn’t fucking whinge about it.
Pipe down and take your fat pension that the current generation can only dream of thanks to you pouring unimaginable debt on the generations to come

You were privileged, made a mess of the country and then gave the temerity to blame the younger generations that your lot fucked up

Remember there’s no such thing as society… well done for that

Kids being born now will likely receive no state pension at all but you’re happy there contributing to your triple lock coffers no doubt

Shameful

No-one knows the trouble I’ve seen!

If the shit hits the fan, men and women will be utilised

I vividly remember in the buildup to the Ukraine War a 'Marta' being interviewed on the frontline border of Ukraine when it wasn't 100% clear whether Russia would invade or not.

These days there's definitely some women involved even in the most dangerous areas of conflict.

Women are an integral part of our Armed Forces, just need more of them.

Ha ha I’ve not even got my state pension that I’ve paid for yet although I do draw a pension that I certainly paid a lot into, how have I made loads of debt for the country, I wasn’t the one that caused a financial crash of biblical proportions, I didn’t cause a world wide pandemic, how am I privileged? I worked and saved I served my country and my community for 35 years and I did without, something everyone is going to have to do again, I didn’t want or need a £1k phone, brand new bmw every 3 years or designer clothes and 3 holidays a year, I’d say thats privilege. I didn’t blame the younger generation to me fucking the world up in 2 world wars, yet my taxes paid that off, shit happens and you get on with it. If the state pension goes then save for your own, but you’ll have to do without and we can’t have that can we!

Usually medics mate and fucking brave ones.

Wouldn’t take long to train me up, I can still remember my rifle drills 25 years after leaving I can take orders without crying to my mum and I know hurty words don’t really matter.
Says something that we’ve still got the same rifle. ‘Safety catch, change lever, magazine, sights, cock the weapon … Watch and shoot’.

Wouldn’t get that with the Bren Gun.

I shouldn’t slate the system, we have moved on with variants and different systems for different types of engagement, but at least we are now looking to the future, instead of sitting on our laurels.

Remember when Sunak talked about National Service and everybody laughed. Well, it was because he was taking advice of the MOD and Intelligence Services, understanding the bigger picture that Ukraine wasn’t the end, just the means. Where he got it wrong was being too up front when it needed a nudge, and then another nudge, followed by another nudge, to make the country aware that stuff is coming down the line.

IMO, forget National Service, just ensure we let the nation know that the most dangerous scenario is that it could be us next.
