Russian invasion of Ukraine

It's a very good point about the current threat to us from Putin.
I have asked the question before. "How" are they a current threat etc. I feel it is mainly propaganda.

I think the only possible threat is either nuclear (not very likely), or when and if peace with Ukraine happens.
Russia could start to rebuild their war machine and have another go at either Ukraine or Europe/UK. But how likely is this?

The truth is that Russia is already doomed. Their economy is decimated. Probably only held up by the current war. This could take decades to rebuild. Hopefully the support from agent 47 is dealt with soon.
They have lost a significant amount of working age young men. With any returning soldiers needing massive support to avoid social problems/mental health. Most will be adverse to any future action.

NATO isn't sitting around waiting for things to happen. Trump has probably (inadvertently) done us a favour. Waking us up with his defence GDP demands. Our reliance on the US is no longer a given. So we should see a more robust defence plan being instrumented.

I feel the only threat from Russia is the snidey shite he has been doing so far. Undersea cable/poisonings etc.
Russia is a busted flush. The sooner the dog at the top is removed, the better for the whole world. (same goes for the US)
I’ve previously posted about the widespread problems that Russia faces, and you’ve repeated a few there, and you’ve also made some very considered additions.

They have overplayed their hand. The Trump scenario is a distraction from the inexorable direction of travel. They are fucked.

It will take them at least a decade to recover, even if they desisted forthwith from being cunts and repented. Neither of which are going to happen. So they will continue to stagnate.

And oil will diminish as a commodity in the next 30 years.

The only things that can save them is other natural resources (which is possible given its size) or a severe climate crisis, that makes it, alongside Canada and Greenland, the only large nations in the Northern Hemisphere that will be habitable in 100 years.

Depressing thought.

Not sure I follow this comment, how will a lot of the northern hemisphere not still be habitable ?

If global warming gets out of control. I’m no meteorologist, but I’d assume in those circumstances the most northerly, large landmasses would be the best places to live. And quite possibly the only habitable places.

Look up AMOK for what global warming could do to this country. If correct, it would be barely habitable.

But Farage sez we should reopen the coal mines and abandon woke renewable energy policies.

I understand climate change probably as good as anyone on here, as it was part of my job until I retired, and there's a lot of scare mongering, the UK will be perfectly habitable in 100 years, it won't be ideal, but it will still be habitable.

There's a huge debate about amoc within the climate change environment, not to mention if it happens at all, but it's unlikely to make Canada or Greenland the only habitable places, it might not make the UK any more hospitable, nor russia.

Whatever happens it will be disruptive to populations everywhere, but that should be obvious to us all by now.

Anyway, all a bit "off topic" in this thread.

I’ll genuinely bow to your better knowledge and withdraw that part of my post.

But not the rest.

No need to withdraw anything, none of as are fortune tellers.

Back to this thread, we agree, russia is largely fucked for a long time into the future.
Their demographics are terrible, and mass immigration will be resisted, as much as it can be in a country that size.

They will eventually get overwhelmed. There won’t be enough troops that are fit to defend those borders.

He’s so badly miscalculated.

As I posted yesterday, its why I think we're being gas lighted by our own political leaders about "the rest of europe being next".

I'm not the most intelligent person on here, but I can see why it's bollocks, it's pretty much impossible, yes they could nuke us, but I'd be amazed if their nukes are in a better state than ours, and they know that would be suicidal.

It’s more complicated than that. Just because they couldn’t take Europe, doesn’t mean they don’t need dealing with.

They cannot be allowed to do this again.

There are many threats Russia can (and do) cause us in the U.K. We are already at war with them to an extent.

Some examples are:

- sabotaging physical infrastructure (such as undersea data cabling).
- biochemical attacks on U.K. soil (already happened twice in recent times).
- ransomware attacks against critical infrastructure, businesses and the general population.
- propaganda wars (think flooding social media with ‘vote reform’ bots).

It’s unlikely that they’d launch a more traditional attack. They know there are grey areas they can push the limits from.

Negotiations lasted 2 hours today, Witless still wants Ukraine to give up all of Donbass the fucking fool. Hope their plane ends up in the Atlantic on the way back to their master.
