All that time and effort money in central contracts building him up for the ashes 2025 and then doesn't play in any of the meaningful tests, England are going to lose the ashes 3.0 then play him in 2 dead rubbers.

Look, what is the point in moaning and calling for change when somebody has had that chance of 3 years in the england camp being touted as the best spinner in england only to not get the chance.

One Change and it's for somebody that is like for like and not a system change or an idea of playing spin

I said the other day, TALK IS CHEAP (Ben Stokes)

The prep for this series has been abysmal. It looks like they've premeditated what it takes to win in Australia and ignored all the evidence in front of them.

The Lions went to Australia at the start of this year. Tongue, Bashir and Sam Cook were part of the bowling attack.

In the two games Tongue played he took 0-139.
In the three games Bashir played he took 4-274.
In the three games Cook played he took 13-186.

He had one test against Zimbabwe and bowled okay without taking the wickets. But it was his first test and despite being the best English bowler in County Cricket for a number of years they decided that was it for him.

The video of Key talking about bowling at 70mph never winning an ashes series in Oz, whilst Neser and Boland were shown clearing us up...well there you go. The stat at the Gabba showing balls at the stumps from England had taken 3-33 yet only 7% of balls had targeted them summarises our approach and preparation.

We've just decided we're going to go and be aggressive rather than go and bowl well. Sam Cook might not have been the saviour, but with that record you'd surely say he passed his audition in Australia and was worthy of consideration. Based on Bashir's I'd have abandoned that plan and thought about going back to Leach and seeing if you could get him bowling more maidens and developing control. Let Bashir go play more County Cricket and come back in a year or two.

Brooks telling the world the players had a great time not thinking about cricket for a few days probably went down well with the barmy army.

This squad has no self awareness in that respect.

Yep not smart.. What they don’t report is what he said before that! Typical shite media never give the full picture it’s endemic in all media report what gets clicks interactions…

The Problem is the system and central contracts, it's a case of you're on the list, so you get the next crack if somebody is dropped or injured, if somebody is flying in country cricket and having a great season making runs or taking wickets, so what is the point? You'll never get a chance and everybody knows it.

Nothing will change even if we lose 5.0, the same old list of players will be given more time, only this time it will be for the home ashes in 2 years time.

Maybe this is the plan ? The Old Aussie team can have their swan song summer, knowing that in 2 years, the Aussies will be a team of new players finding there feet

I agree. It goes all the way back to pathway cricket and grass roots club level. I was coaching an u11s team and was asked by the bloke running the junior teams to pick 3 players to go forward to the pathway process. I refused to do it, fundamentally disagreed with it.

Kids/People are not on the same level and talent. Age is not the key factor. People and kids skills mature at different times and sometimes it takes longer to understand

County Cricket is not being used and like you said, it's a process (pathway cricket) to cherry-pick the so-called talent
For me, it's all wrong ? You see so many people being picked on the (pathway cricket) because of the talent at a young age but go backwards because of the pressure to become the best

Let Kids and People develop and learn to be team players as well. Not all teams have to be made from the best talent
In fact, I think having workhorses in the team makes your better players shine.

Looking at the teams for the third test, I think this will be an even more heavy a defeat as the first test. I don't understand why we aee persisting with Carse, he is a buffet bowler and only takes wickets by pure luck. Atkinson wasn't taking as many but at least offered some control.

Totally agree. Carse looked clunky to me and while he took wickets they were from shit deliveries. Never looked in any rhythm at all, whereas Atkinson is much more consistent. Was a case of too samey in the last test, he didnt get it to do much, but he is generally very consistent. I would definitely have stuck with him, and he is a better bat
