45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

Even though he can't play RB likes Nunes, as we all have seen, Nunes often is a 3rd CB in a back 3.

Nunes is perfect for us as a RB because he can be a play making RCB, a wide RB or invert into midfield, all at a high level.

Khusa can't do all that, but if we need to rest Nunes, then I see no problem with a simplified RB role where he always tucks into a back 3.

Because if we want to give him minutes, simply waiting to rest Dias or Gvardiol doesnt seem like it will afford him enough.

Again the Brentford player controlled that ball more towards the corner flag than the goal, a yellow was the right call.
That’s as inaccurate as it was the last time you trotted it out, the ball ultimately getting picked up by Trafford somewhere between the 6 and 18 yard boxes (approx 15 yards) and barely more than a yard off the vertical from where the Brentford lad was scythed down on the edge of the 18 yard box. He could, and undoubtedly would, have fired off a shot from a reasonable angle had Khusanov not flattened him.
And again, the central issue was the rashness of the challenge, not whether it merited a yellow or red card

Was it rash ? He was maybe a couple of inches from getting a touch on the ball, OK he didn't get it, but I'd rather he did that outside the box than in it.

I think far too much is being made of it, it's not like more experienced players haven't done similar, he's 21 and generally had a good game, especially after getting an early yellow card. It's only really being talked about because that idiot hinchcliffe didn't mention it 100 times thereafter.

The referee gave a free kick and booked him, and had he given a red, there is the question of whether the player was offside anyway ?

He was milliseconds from the ball in fairness. Dont think it was rash in that sense, the ball was there to be won, just his rustiness and lack of game time made him mistime.
He more than made up for it afterwards.

That's what I saw.

I love his defending. But it’s still a risk if he can stay on the pitch for 90+ minutes. Yesterday’s challenge could easily be a red card. He was lucky there was no VAR. Thing is he didn’t need to do it. He’s faster anyways and this early in the game you need to trust the player can miss and the goalkeeper saves it.

But he will learn. He has to. Refs will target him I’m sure.
Listen to the comments of Mukasa after the game about Kush. He will get there.
What did mukasa say ?

Everyone overanalyzing his early challenge and yet a couple games ago Gvardiol gave away a pen against Leeds for similar challenge but nobody talked about it in the same manner.

He’s very fortunate that he didn’t get a red but I thought other than that blunder, he did a fine job out there. Another clean sheet and a learning experience

If we're being honest the challenge by Gvardiol was levels worse for multiple reasons the most obvious one being the actual result...

I think he's probably getting a bit overhyped by our fans at the moment, which I understand because he gets overcriticized from outside the club.

Wouldn't say overhyped, maybe more being realistic that there is a very, very good player just waiting to explode, if given a decent run of games.
