Russian invasion of Ukraine

I tend to think more historically mate. Diplomatic relations thaw, economies improve, populations recover but land is land. I tend to measure most wars on land lost vs gained tbh.
I think that perspective is somewhat anachronistic. Seizing and in particular holding territory is not nearly as straightforward as it once was. One only has to look at Afghanistan and Iraq and realise how effectively insurrections can be waged with modern military equipment, a situation that has become further enhanced by the proliferation of drone technology.

The cost to Russia of occupying the land it has stolen will continue to be huge.

I also think you underestimate just how much this has damaged Russo-European reflations. Most Europeans won’t simply forget this. Some will, sure, but they will be a minority.

I have a lot of things to say and a lot of opinions to the point I could probably write a book. The only takeaway as a model example for me is Poland. When the conflict started, they opened their doors and were taking pets too. It broke my heart (in a good way).

Get with the program Dam, nobody is allowed to have an open mind in this thread, the lads that hardly ever post anything to do with football on a football forum run this show
Do you count the number of football related posts by other posters before evaluating whether they are part of that cohort? If so, do you evaluate it on a the actual number, or a percentage of their overall output? And does it count double if the football related post is about City? And what if their only football related posts are about City?

So many questions so little time, I usually stay away from these threads as they are choka block with the likes of yourself trying to claim a moral high ground, congratulations yer won, go get yerself a biscuit

No idea what kind of 'open minded output` you wish to post, but you seem to have a problem that most on here hope or pray for the poor people in Ukraine defending the existence of their families and their country to just go on living a peaceful life.

There's a simple empathy that we wouldn't want it to happen in our happy lives. Do you need to live in Charkiv for the next 3 months to understand what's all about? Really?

Anyway, instead of moaning that posting isn't allowed you could just type in what you want to contribute and then live with all sorts of replies like anybody else does here on an anonymous internet forum.

Or you open a new thread from the other sides' perspective and see how it goes.

Hes probably a virgin. He has never p-p-picked up anything.
Utterly bizarre that castigating Russia for invading a sovereign nation, stealing land and children, bombing children’s hospitals and targeting civilians in conjunction with attacking western Europe on a daily basis and routinely threatening the use of nuclear weapons can be seriously characterised as ‘taking the moral high ground’. In what world does being critical of those things amount to pontification?

‘Taking the moral baseline’ would be more apposite.

We know what world.. Deeply unpleasant one filled with deeply unpleasant people.

politicians.Hello, мy name is Vitalii, and I’m from #Donbas!Recently, during negotiations, Ukraine

is being pressured to give up Donbas. But this is not fair! We did not attack Russia! It was Russia

that attacked Ukraine in 2014 - and then again in 2022!Why should we, Ukrainians, give up our own towns and villages, our homes, our land where our grandparents are buried?!Russia must be punished - not us, the Ukrainians!Donbas is our ground. Donbas is Ukraine”

This soldier was born in the Donbas and wants to tell us why Ukraine shouldn’t give up the Donbas

And if that’s the US and European assessment, why is PotUS seeing it otherwise?

I’d say that’s exactly what Putin is aiming for. Not today, not tomorrow, but coming to us some time soon, if we let it.
It's not coming to "us" some time soon though, as things stand he can't, but I suspect he'd take the 3 Baltic states they once held as ussr he would, he won't take on Poland for sure, nor Finland imho, both far too strong, and would wipe his army out, which is why he won't go after the 3 Baltic states either, because they'd both join in, with or without full NATO support.
