Where have all the Insects gone ?

only a short video ... and just 3 mins in FS makes the connection between dirty toxic rivers ,lack of insects ,and lack of bird life .

I've read some posters on this thread claim there isn't a problem....I'm alright Jack sort of approach....I'd suggest the lack of insects .is a huge problem, and one that needs addressing ,on so many fronts ....and if Ex new wave Band leaders have turned their attention to the problem ,then even dozy football fans can do the same ; )

The goverment made a pledge 20 years ago to clean 100% of the country's rivers lakes and ponds , the name of the environment Secretary at the time....well known ...let's just say the pledge hasn't even got off the ground as raw sewage still to this day is being pumped into our rivers ....

Not sure anyone has disputed that insect numbers are decline or that it is a problem. I think the only disagreements have been around the causes of the decline in insect numbers.

This article would suggest that numbers of freshwater insects are increasing, while land insects are decreasing.

Yes there have been posters who say insect numbers haven't really changed. Same posters argue that songbird numbers are not in decline...
Thanks for your post,I'll have a look;)

Bit random this but another Song bird noted by its absence. The bloke seems to know his birds . The reason for the no show could well be found in the comments section for this video where others talk of Blackbirds habitually disappearing or hiding for a few weeks in Sept as they moult- and just stay out of the way!
Still ,an intresting addition to the thread.

Intresting article and I note it says that Freshwater insect numbers are actually up by 11% " following action to clean up polluted rivers by goverment......This would not be the view of Feargal Shatkey as articulated in a discussion posted earlier....I find the variety of different views from paid professionals, casual observers and enthusiastic nature lovers ...intriguing.
Lots of opinions aired on this very important subject.

Insects are back.
Last year we had neither greenfly nor wasps in our garden when there are usually plenty.
Now they are back in abundance, brought out by the sunshine.
Out comes the aphid spray.

Agree....front of cars covered with them, bird making a right noise in the mornings, loads of things on the pond......nice days all round

If LED can be traumatic to Man.....
Imagine the effect on delicate, natural insect bodies

Judging by the amount of tablets and medication your taking these days....far from Rotherham days,
Id say....your the brain fogged, jibby jabbed Fruit loop.

Get on with your next tablet denis.remember to take your water
If you've gone through 2025 and can't understand the quite obvious decline in Insect numbers ,in England....I feel sorry for you ,maybe..up the Meds?

And as Tiny Tim said “God bless us, everyone!”

When I lived in Munich there was a wasp infestation every three years, biergartens were a nightmare. Is it cyclical in this country?

Good joke.
But..have you any opinion on where have all the insects gone ?
Do you care ...do you think there has been a decline.
Do you think it's an important issue......not a joke.
Nowhere near as many as when we were kids. Yer rarely see a Red Admiral (no joke) - is a Red Admiral an insect? Far less bees than there used to be. Few ladybirds, but surprisingly the same number of aphids.

Driving down the motorway the car windscreen used to be covered in insects by the time we reached our destination.
Last summer we drove home from Wales for four hours no sign of any insects on the windscreen, seriously could that be one of the reasons for the decline, the amount of road vehicles killing insects by the thousands daily
