16 | Rodri 2025/26

Surprised how good he looked considering how little he's played

When he came back from his big injury, even his simple passing was a bit all over the place, which is understandable.

Last night he looked like he hadn't been away. I'm sure we weren't intending to have him play that many minutes but it's probably not a bad thing.

I do like Gonzalez though. He shouldn't feel his days as a starter are numbered when Rodri is fully back. There's games where they can both play. Gonzalez operated as more of an 8 before joining us, so I am sure he can play alongside Rodri.
Agreed and Rodri will not be overworked so Nico g will gets loads of minutes

I think that one of his best assets is his body balance. When received the ball he’s always strong on the feet and the body allows him to pass quickly after. Some players have a slight error in the balance what takes them a second longer and they have to rethink for another solution because the option is gone now. It gives a player so much rest in the head when you know this will never be the problem so you can focus 100 out of 100 on the next step before and within receiving. He’s one of those guys together with all other elite players

Hopefully picks up match sharpness but he looked great last night.Pep was emphasising we need to be careful but not hiding his emotion very well as Rodders is desperate to get back.
Once all parties are satisfied the new contract will be signed, hes going nowhere !

I love Nico, and he has done an outstanding job for us. We are incredibly fortunate to have him stepping into arguably the most demanding and unforgiving position in Pep’s system—and doing it all within his very first year. That role breaks players, yet he has carried it with maturity, grit, and intelligence.

Without him, we could have dropped countless points. Instead, we’re still firmly in the title race. That alone tells you how immense his contribution has been. Well done, Nico. You’ve been exceptional.

Now, it’s time to give the midfield back to the master. To let Rodri do what only Rodri can—ooze class, dictate the tempo, conduct the orchestra, and control the game from start to finish. He operates on a different level entirely.

We are coming for the title. And with Rodri back, the standard rises again.

Seeing Rodri’s second half performance the other night was like a slap in the face with a wet fish, it was like fucking WHACK… ‘ah yes that’s what we’ve been missing!’

And that is not just a comparison with Nico, who’s a decent player, it’s a comparison with BSilva, Reijnders and Foden too. They’re all varying degrees of decent players, sometimes Foden can be outstanding… but none of them are at Rodri’s level.

If we can keep Rodri fit and get him playing at that level regularly, we will not drop 16 points in the second half of the season like we have in the first half.

Gonzales done great for us but that second half by Rodri shows the actual difference in quality with the two as a number six! Would an Anderson be a level up to Gonzales? Not sure Rodri is levels above all midfielders!
Anderson is barely a 6.

Nico will never reach Rodris lvl as a cdm and i really hope he can be healthy for the rest of the season and signs a new contract.

Rodri wasn’t Rodri level at Nico ‘s age. I agree it’s unlikely he reach Balon D’or level not sure another 6 will. Doesn’t mean he can’t become a very good 6/8 and be a key player for us.

Rodri was a very good cdm at that age and was already a better one. Nico has done a very good job, but im not sure he really is a cdm after all.

When Rodri was Nico’s age he was in his first season with us.Was he better than Nico then, not so sure, certainly not according to bluemoon at that time.

Media still spouting that RM want Rodri in the summer. Why would he go to a club that snubbed him en masse at Balon d’or??? Hope it’s rubbish & City get his contract updated
