Kalvin Phillips

Is he actually fit or is he still injured? You'd hope he'll go somewhere before the end of the month. Benefits nobody for him to stay here. Let him go on loan for peanuts in the hope that he might get into some fitness/form and maybe we can recoup a small amount for him - although we'll obviously have to pay his contract up.

he is not the lowest paid player in the squad for sure wonder what the ones on lesser contract think of him seeing he is probably either a sicknote or a training cone but pocketing more.

Lord of the Manor? No.
Master of my Domain? Absolutely!
For Seinfeld fans!

It’s not about spending it faster than you’re earning it, although there’s clearly a few that do, but realizing it’s a very small window of gains followed by a long, long life thereafter.

You make hay while the sun shines so your stock can eat when it doesn’t. It’s a very long “winter” for a pro footballer…esp at the top level!

Injuries cut careers short for 76% of players, with ACL issues causing 24 months lost. Competition and physical toll mean 40% retire at 30-34, only 17% reach 35. EPL players stay at top level longer, around 7.5 years for elites.

7.5 years for an elite player: 1 big contract!!

The stories of many a working class winner falling foul of their good fortune…

But we're talking about the scenario of already having earned £20m and then thinking do I need to earn another £10m or would £5m (or even £50k) be enough if I'm happier with my day to day life.

The argument for having £1m and thinking, do I want to earn £20m more is very, very different.

If you're going to lose your millions then it goes back to something being wrong (usually gambling/addiction) - and having £30m instead of £20m isn't going to solve that issue.

Im sorry, but you’re not going to change my mind on the money, longevity and generational wealth.

You can overlay your working class/pro footballer sensibilities on it any which way you want, but it’s meaningless at this point.

He’s exercising the biggest contract of his life and that appears to be an overriding factor. I’m not going to denigrate him for that, esp not knowing anything else of any consequence to change that calculus.

I think you've missed the point. A poster said they would be happy to go and play football if they were already rich, and someone replied that they didn't believe them.

It's not about judging Kalvin - and I was very clear about that. I was arguing that at the stage you don't *need* more money, then it's not unbelievable to think the poster would go and play football for less money if that's what made them happy.

I have no idea of the day to day machinations of his life, his training regimen, or his attitude. I’m not sure any of us do.

If he was not fulfilling his contractual requirements, I assume City would fire him.
There’s been plenty of reports about fitness and lack of effort, particularly at West Ham.

And, I fully expect Kalvin might do that once his City contract is over.

I understand that a player can reject a transfer and sit out their contract while receiving pay, but is it possible that clubs have no mechanisms to protect themselves from this? For example, with clauses like 'If Phillips doesn't play more than 50% of the matches in the first half of the season for a non-injury reason, he will receive 50% of his weekly wage for the rest of the season

Yeah, there’s never any story planting anywhere ever.

I’ve been inside enough clubs, and other organizations, to know I cast a very jaundiced eye over personal attacks inside a business.

Maybe he’s a bad ‘un. I don’t know. Only know that if a club gave me generational wealth-type money to be there, I’d be there!

Would you agree to a contract that takes your pay package out of your hands?

There are plenty of stories about players getting sat down because one more game would trigger a payment to their old club.

I seem to remember talk of Khusanov last year??

Casemiro has one this year! He has to play all the United games for the rest of the season to get his one year extension. That’s NEVER happening, and United have made sure of it!

So you'd go onto half pay if the manager doesn't pick you?

What motivation would people have to plant a story about Kalvin Phillips? Who cares? He’s shite.

I was just exaggerating, it doesn't have to be literally that. I meant some clauses that would allow the club to prevent this kind of insolence (in a situation where/if Phillips refuses a transfer)

I think that Villa are refusing to play on loan Harvey Eliot as it would trigger a " buy clause"with liverpool.

Imagine a world where players and their agents would allow a “you cannot turn down a transfer” clause in their contracts!

All our misfits would be playing for Troyes or Montevideo City.
