Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

The same points were made in the 20/21, 22/23, and 23/24 seasons and some of those stills remained.

In the end it's just about moving forward and getting better from the position you're in around January/February, and most of the time we've managed to do that.

We're still in a good position to get silverware (League Cup final on the horizon) and finish well in the league (well clear of 4th/5th). During a rebuild season you've sort of got to say fair enough.
If Pep carries on with this dross slow motion dog crap we aren't winning jack shit...

So that fuck with Richard Keys makes some wild guess and social media goes wild.
What a world we love in.
Time to circle the wagons again.

The Pep conversations are weird until you realise not only have the same points been made in every title winning season, they've been made by the same posters. I've said it before, Guardiola makes a certain type of City supporter feel very insecure and so they've ended up disliking him for the longest time. Must be painful knowing that he's going nowhere anytime soon as is relishing building another title winning team.

It does make me laugh, how those who want him gone as his ideas / tactics have become stale, then suggest Enrique, Kompany, Maresca.....

So you accept we're not doing to badly then :-)
I never expected to win the title this season because of our rebuild but we found ourselves in the picture but it’s his reluctance to change this passing and high line which is clearly not working and I would imagine players like Haaland will be getting frustrated aswell . We are not far of it if he changes things .

11 new players within the space of 12 months. Time is required for this group of players to settle. It's a 50% squad replacement rebuild and the guy has us sat currently 2nd in the Premier League, in another cup semi final, Round 4 of the FA Cup and almost into the KOs of the Champions League.

He's doing an incredible job.

Any manager in history is likely to decline at some point in his career. Ferguson looked awkward in the 2011 CL final against Pep. Nobody can be sure that Pep is going to retire as the best in the world. Younger managers may eclipse him.

But... this idea that football has changed so much since we won the 4 in a row that Pep's tactics are outdated seems a bit strange to me. Yes, football is getting more dynamic, but close to Pep people are the best around: Arteta, Kompany, Enrique, Alonso, Maresca, not some unrelated guys.

My feeling is Pep's going to triumph again. He's unique.

Genuine question why did we go away from the tactics and playstyle that won the treble? Is it because of injuries or did teams work us out because I can't think of a team that did.

The game changed.

Opposition started to sit deep in a back ten and made it harder to pass through them. Ended up with us going side to side more. Since then some press higher too now, but teams are generally a lot more switched defensively against us

I've not got round to watching this yet, but will. The guy is good - he's generally a bit critical about positional approaches, but is pretty clued up.

"Episode 3: Manchester City's Attacking Dissonance

In my analysis of the Manchester Derby, I take a look at why Guardiola's attacking organisation feels like it's stuck between two approaches."

The box midfield was immense. Gvardiol can play the stones role (injury aside) and now maybe Guehi could step in as he's a ball player.

What do you mean by Guardiola making certain types of fan feel insecure?

Biggest transition we’ve been in since the 2009-10 season.

Not only are loads of these players new, we have an unusual amount of young players. Back at our Centurions+Fourmidables+Treble best, the vast majority of our squad were aged between 26-32. Now the vast majority of our squad are aged 19-24.

Young players are inconsistent, by default. Even looking at our most accomplished U24 year old - Gvardiol - he’s fucking mint, but at 23 he still makes the odd mistakes. Never mind some of our young lads who aren’t at Gvardiol’s level or are even younger.

Better players iron out the number of mistakes they make as they gain experience. All of: Trafford Khusanov Alleyne Ait-Nouri O’Reilly Lewis Nico Cherki Doku even Savinho and Bobb and and obviously Gvardiol, will all be much better players in three years time (whether they’re still with us or not).

You’d hope young players would be helped along at training and through games in their development by our senior players, but many of our senior players barely feature; like Stones and Aké, our very best player in Rodri, and we’ve not yet seen Kovačić this season… we’ve hardly seen any of them, and when we have they’re struggling coming back from injury. Plus Dias was much improved compared to last season and now he’s out.

I’d argue that we are doing incredibly well to be 2nd in the PL, 3rd in the CL, in the semis of the EFL Cup and hopefully will march on in the FA Cup.

We are the top scorers in England, we have scored 12 more goals than the two teams directly below us. And we’ve just signed another goalscorer. This is a good sign. We’ve also played well in a select number of games, but with our inexperienced and younger chunk of our squad, it’s inevitable we are going to have a select number of terrible performances n’all. And this is not anything to do with Pep losing his touch or us needing to get someone else in… if anything, Pep Txiki+Viana have put together this squad so Pep should see it through to where they hit their prime as a unit.

they did the same thing long ago, i think we have lost some really important players , players coming in have not been on that lvl and not capable of playing the same way.
