Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Last year the same points were made and every month those stills went away
The same points were made in the 20/21, 22/23, and 23/24 seasons and some of those stills remained.

In the end it's just about moving forward and getting better from the position you're in around January/February, and most of the time we've managed to do that.

We're still in a good position to get silverware (League Cup final on the horizon) and finish well in the league (well clear of 4th/5th). During a rebuild season you've sort of got to say fair enough.

Nagelsmann after World Cup or year after
What has Nagelsmann done in football in the last four years that would make us even consider him?

He was looking like he might have been the first Bayern manager to not win the league for 12 years until he left them in the March late that season.

Since then he’s had Germany looking fairly average… some very poor performances in the last few years, even in a winning run recently I watched them at Northern Ireland and they weren’t good at all.

Semenyo only just arrived - scored virtually all his goals for Bournemouth. Only time will tell. Yesterday he was scared to death of taking on fatty Shaw.
Marmoush - again looked great in another country and powder puff here. Hence he cant get a kick. Even when Erling is off form.
Cherki - agreed but cost us yesterday with that poor free kick and and attempted tackle for the breakaway. Needs to work on his stamina/fitness.
Reijnders - looked immense, again in a foreign league. Looks miles off it in the PL.
Nico G - has reliably stepped up
Nypan - will probably get loaned out (see Echerevvi)
Ait Nouri - still unproven at a top side.
Khushanov and Reis - young prospects. If Reis was that good why is he not getting recalled when we have a defence injury crisis.
Guehi - Great deal and a great playet
Donnarumma - most recent signing that sits in the world class bracket.
If Pep cannot get the best out of a team which is virtually a new xi since last January, then we need someone else.

Yes but were Arsenal as poor as they are now?

I would say No.

The whole PL in general has dropped in terms of quality.

I've watched some dog awful games this season. Not involving City.
Yeh it’s awful. The only reason it’s more competitive is the drop off of the top teams has been huge. I don’t think the mid table teams are any better than they were 5/6 years ago.

That's our level these days though. We're one of the top teams in the world and expect to win trophies.

It's certainly spoiled to expect to win every trophy every season but not to win something in a season. So far there's only 2 seasons we haven't won anything in the last 9, and we've won multiple trophies in many of those seasons.

It's not spoiled to expect to see us play some decent football and create chances. Apart from a few games in the last couple of seasons we haven't even seen that.

It's not spoiled to question why we seem to have gone backwards since winning the treble. I know we won the 4-in-a-row the following season but that was largely down to the mentality and desire of the players to get over the line.
We’re still in the CL, league cup and FA cup so it’s not like those are written off already. We are creating chances and had we buried them against Sunderland, Chelsea and Brighton, we’d be in a much different place. We’re in the middle of a massive overhaul from last January and will have a very different squad going into next season. That stuff doesn’t happen overnight.

We are spending 100s of millions every year to then do what? Just get top 4? Don’t we take the piss out of the rags for doing the exact same thing?
No, we took the piss out of the Rags for spending £2b in a decade and finishing lower than we did under Stuart Pearce in that season we only scored 10 goals and 0 at home from the January.

There’s no disgrace at all in finishing in any of the top positions in the league. If you can’t win the league in any given season, ensure CL football for the next season and go for winning the FA or EFL Cup.

Aim to and expect to are very different things.

We did that last season and then spent tons of money to improve our squad. We cannot keep saying this every year otherwise we will end up like the rags or Chelsea pretty soon. Football is brutal. If we start accepting these kind of results or seasons, we might very well end up like those 2. I want us to be a Madrid or Barcelona, challenging every season.

Except we are actually in contention for trophies, unlike them. We’re in a better place as a club than United, Liverpool and Chelsea. Arsenal have spent plenty but it’s just been filling holes since they’ve had consistency over the last few seasons.

Squad planning after the treble was borderline arrogant but we’re making up for it now. It takes time for an overhaul like this to get players in and settled but we’re ahead of schedule and should be favorites for everything next season. We also just had some turnover at positions well above the pitch at the club. If next season doesn’t yield anything, then you can go on about the spend and lack of trophies. Until then, we’re rebuilding.

The problem with our possession football is Haaland is the only one making runs behind crowded defenders. Doku, Savinho, Bobb, Bernardo just don’t make runs preferring to receive a side pass or a back pass. It keeps possession but we are not making forward progress with the ball.

Pep has to allow the team to take risk and all the forwards and attacking midfielders need to be prepared to make runs rather than just Haaland.

With only Haaland making the run the defence can easily close the space down. If one other player makes a run behind it causes confusion, also allowing the player on the ball option to play through ball or possibly a shot if a player backs off to pick up one of our runners.

Presently it is side pass or players drop deeper to receive back pass. Opposition press us further back. We build up play again.

De Bruyne didn’t have great possession stats but wow could he play and create wonderful goals for others.

You do realize the PL is a lot more competitive than La Liga right? We’re also aren’t sacking managers when the going gets tough and frivolously spending money to give the new manager what they want.

If you’re going to make comparisons, at least make them somewhat equivalent.

Need to start using that money on classy players who will improve the team right away.

Who do you have in mind ?
not one name atm, but a lot of very good players are around in different top teams and i don't think that none of them are available. Full backs, midfielders and wingers. You think there are no player available to improve most important areas like midfield and full back?

In the last 5 seasons united have:

Got to the semi final of the league cup
Won the league cup

Got to the semi final, final and won the FA cup

Got to 2 europa league finals

To say they arent in contention in the cups isn't totally true. Only this season have they been abject. Due to Amorins lack of coaching ability.

The rest of your post i agree with. We need to recruit a lot better if we are to collect silverware on a regular basis.

But you must have somebody in mind who fits your criteria ?

How obtainable are these players you talk about, and which teams will want to let their best players leave ?

There has been movement before from top teams, Real Madrid seems to get a lot of them for free. I don´t know how available they are, Barella and PSG midfielders come to mind straight away, there are definetly more and considering we have 1 full back ,there are a lot of full backs who could improve that position.

Who specifically as you know there are so many available, and at what cost ?

And you seem to be making the case for getting them now ?
