Players who might improve us

I don't understand this tweet, isn't Cherki KdB replacement creativity wise?

while i agree, we need runners, who can suffocate opposition, but i dont think we need to sell Foden

Think we need to have a long hard look at the entire transfer policy over the last few years. And I don't think Foden is the problem, he was there during the treble years and was an integral part. This may sound a bit snobbish, but we are signing players from Wolves, Palace, Bournemouth and Uzbekistan and wondering why they're not prime De Bruyne, Silva or Aguero. I think we have drastically changed our shopping habits and the expectation is on Pep to make them into superstars, but that is a big ask.

Kev was at Wolfsburg
Silva at Valencia

Not really great teams

Khusanov as been thrown in deep end with no experience CB next to him

Guehi not even played yet

Semenyo has hit the ground running

The issue is not offloading the players with horrendous injury records not who sign players from

Yes. We signed Barry and Milner from Aston Villa, Mahrez from Leicester, Lescott from Everton, Bellamy from West Ham and Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk. The status of the selling clubs isn't the issue.

We still need to clear out so many who either aren't good enough, too injury prone or past their best. My list of departures between now and next August is:

Lewis
Kovacic
Stones
Ake
Bernardo
Phillips
Ortega
Grealish
Akanji
Bobb

Might even include Savinho. So that's 10 or 11 players and we'll only see three or four come in. But the three or four will hopefully transform our team.

Who’s your suggestion then?

Amazingly it’s not easy to just sign superstars and there isn’t anyone out there who’s a prime De Bruyne or Silva for starters.

I think there was a time when signing Tevez, Yaya, Aguero, Silva, Kompany, KDB you were guaranteed a huge step up in quality. And yes that is probably not sustainable due to FFP, but I just don't feel that the current signings provide that step up in quality, or even maintaining the previous level. If anything, it is more like a drop off in quality. When you examine the treble squad and then look at who we replaced them with. KDB, Gundo, Walker, Cancelo, prime Grealish, Mahrez, Alvarez & even Palmer.

I don't really feel the same with Marmoosh, Nunes, Ait Nori, Reijnders, Savinho, Khusanov, Gonzalez.

Semenyo, Cherki and Guehi could smash it, but we don't really know yet.

I'm sure the club were expecting more from the academy, but it hasn't really materialised apart from O'Reilly. The others who have come in have been underwhelming.

Palmer and Rogers, from the academy, both look excellent players now? Such a pity we didn't loan Palmer? I heard he didn't want to leave the club, just wanted more game time?

Silva was a world cup winner and Kev had just broken Bundesliga assist record. They were no average joes or might be good in 5 years signings.

Joao Neves and Bruno Guimaraes.
I'd love to have either along with Andersen, but it's hard to see either of them leaving. Guimaraes looks settled and bought in to the project with Howe. Neves may be a little more realistic, but that's highly dependent on if/when Enrique leaves and who they get to replace him.

Tonali may be a good alternative and there've been some rumors floating around recently.

IMO both Guehi and Semenyo will both prove to be good signings

Loved both Kev and Dave but the point I was making they didn’t play for traditional Big teams

Good list, but how many of these will want to leave you can't force them as we found out in the summer.

Stones, Bernardo and Ortega are obviously the easiest.

I think a candid chat with Ake and Kovacic probably sees them move. Of course they don't have to go, but they probably want to be playing football with the short amount of time they have left in their careers. Gundogan got the hint last summer, so these two might feel the same if told they're no longer in the plan.

Looks like Bobb is going in this window.

Akanji and Grealish will definitely go and I think on permanent deals.

Savinho has supposedly been open to moving to Spurs. If they come back in then I think we might accept but I'd say he's 50:50.

That just leaves Phillips and Lewis. They're the toughest to move on. Phillips is on too good money. He'd be giving up a fortune and doesn't seem remotely arsed about playing. Lewis might want to play more football but is at his boyhood club on a good, long contract. Might need to be told he's no longer in the plans.

Agree. We are shopping at the wrong shops!
