Galatasaray (H) | CL | Post-Match Thread

Let's face it, we are lucky Madrid are so shit.
Because we switched off in the second half and no one wanted to shoot, we could have ended up ninth.
2 more goals would have seen other teams go below us and therefore we'd be safe, instead we decided to pass it into the net rather than shoot.
Doku was outstanding in midfield and I assume the injury was caused by one of the several fouls on him.

Ah well, we made it but I say again, if Madrid hadn't imploded (2 sent off) we'd be a very angry forum right now.
I think Doku has a calf strain. His 2 assists were excellent. I have seen him pick crosses out before, but I particularly liked the through ball to Haaland. I didn't realise he had that in his game.

Impressive first half, fuck knows what we were playing in the 2nd half!

Few players really under performed in the 2nd half which was sad, and none of them were players who started!

In terms of the crowd, shameful on so many not going, truly embarassing that last night. If they didn't go for safety reasons, fair enough, but 100% bullshit as no doubt those who missed the game but were happy to be in istanbul for hte final other year!

To the club, I really hope someone takes you to court over the safety of the fans, that last night was a shit show.

Thankfully there was no mass brawls, but we did get challenged to a fight by a group of turkish males near the bus stop facing asda.
I think the biggest factor is cost ! This time of year people are absolutely skint, club needs to do more.

I think the way it is organised is that the league phase just gets the ducks in a row for the knockout stage.
This new format means that we play a minimum of 8 different teams at least once. Previous to this it was playing 3 different teams twice.
Its just unfortunate that we may have to play one of the 3 teams mentioned in our next match.
If we had got a point from either Bodo or Leverkeusen , we would have avoided this scenario

It shows that its a totally flawed system, that will change if Madrid get knocked out in the qualifiers, or next round.

Last 16 should be an open draw with the top 8 in one pot and the other 8 who qualify in another. Top eight play away first leg, none of this nonsense we now have.
Yes the press gleefully reported we luckily squeezed into the CL top eight but will 100% get papped out when we eventually play Madrid

No it doesn't. You get more for qualifying in the top 8 than you do for playing the 2 qualifiers for finishing 9-24
This is correct 8th get 312.7k euro more than 9th, plus 700k for difference in points, but 9th get 1m for the Play off, so if they qualify they still get the 11m and can earn more money that teams above.

RM madrid being one point behind City get almost the same as city in performance money IF they get the last 16 due to the extra 1m, but still 8m behind Arsenal.

The amount of times 2nd half last night where i thought if that’s KDB on the ball Haaland is clean through and they didn’t even end up as chances. Cherki and Foden basically had easier passes on for Haaland than the Doku one for the goal. They didn’t even look for him and nothing came of great positions
Yea thats what I meant really, its that final phase, the crucial ball or shot.

It would be a bigger nonsense changing the rules half way through due to a fan deciding the rules are bad when they are told we could face Real Madrid after both teams underperforming.

I doubt that.
Madrid won't go too far.
Could be playing Benfica, then us and then either arsenal or Bayern if they keep on going.

Its very straightforward.
If we had come nearer to the top, there would be few complaints.
The last 16 is the top 8 against the other 8 and also the top 8 play away 1st leg.
We finished in top 8 and that is exactly what is happening, we are playing away 1st leg.
arsenal and bayern have been given an advantage due to their better performances over the course of the competition.
There is seeding prior to the competition even starting, which was to our advantage.
England have 6 teams currently in this years competition due to their good results in European competitions.
In the world cup, England and Spain, as examples, get preferential seeding compared to weaker countries.
Its the way sport is going

Not sure about that. The rules can be read that they only get the 1m, but anyway clubs finishing 1-8 get an extra 2m, so either way will get more than the club finishing 24th which was his point :-)

1.1.2.2Performance-related amounts (€914m)
• League phase performance bonuses will be paid for each match: €2.1m per win and€700k per draw. Undistributed amounts (€700k per draw) will be allocatedproportionally to the league phase ranking referred to in the next bullet point.
• In addition, there is a new league ranking bonus: each team will be paid an amountbased on their final ranking in the league phase. The total amount available for theleague ranking bonus is divided into 666 equal shares (1+2+3+…+35+36). The initialvalue of each share will be €275k. The lowest-ranked team will receive one share(€275k). One share will be added to every rank and so the highest ranked team willreceive 36 shares. Any savings from draws in the league phase (see above bullet point)will proportionally increase the initial value of the shares distributed to each position.
• On top of the league ranking bonuses, clubs 1 to 8 in the league ranking will receivean additional €2m and clubs 9 to 16 will receive an additional €1m.3
• Clubs that qualify for the knockout stage can expect to receive the following amounts:
− qualification for the knockout round play-offs: €1m per club
− qualification for the round of 16: €11m per club
− qualification for the quarter-finals: €12.5m per club
− qualification for the semi-finals: €15m per club
− qualification for the final: €18.5m per club

Yes. It absolutely does.

Work the maths.

If you skip the 2 games by finishing top 8 you skip your chance of dropping out by not finishing top 8.

Looking at it from last season, it doesn't ? Winners PSG finished 15th
Sometimes you need to play to find your form, also the winter transfer window helps with the availability to add new players

The so-called bigger clubs know it's a 2nd chance and maybe have that little extra safety net in mind knowing you can add new players
