Getting old

I have had so long not putting the lights on heating on and eating less and less, it is fucking miserable for me and i dont want die like this, i am going to try the free pension advice first, starting on the gov website and there are lots of others that the gov has sent me and where to look to get one registered, i fear being scammed these days, ta for the reply x
You can’t go on living like that, I’m sure you’ll get the right advice but bear in mind
it’s the now that’s most important.
By the way Happy Birthday .

Three things happen that are a sure sign of getting old. The first thing is that you start to lose your memory.

I am 65 today, i can hardly believe it i was in intensive care on my last birthday.having had s visit to the dead side and recovered i no longer fear death at all. Yes i am broken mind and body and cant do what i was doing prior to the collapse but cant do anything about that now

I can take a couple of private pensions now but i need advice on as it fucks with my benefits but i want to be much more comfortable than i am now, i now think for the moment and not even a day ahead, i dont think i am destined to get much more time so today is all that matters

Sounds like getting some professional advice would be a good idea and I really hope your situation changes. Happy birthday and I wish you all the luck in the world.

44 years old and sitting at a desk for long periods everyday for 20+ years is starting to take its toll on my posture and overall physical health. Something I am going to work on this year.

Torn medial ligaments, aching and stiff back, costochondritis and impingement in both shoulders is the current list of the injuries - this is all from sitting down. Yes, I tore my medial sat down!

I was putting off some big hiking and cycling trips until my children got older and I could travel abroad guilt free without my wife and children, but this last year or so has made me realise these things can’t be put off. In fact someone has said to me, anything you were planning to do in retirement do it now or asap. That’s hit home.

Two types of scams that catch many people:
* one that plays on fears & anxiety. "you need to do this now or you will lose/owe a ton of money." Or "your internet will be cut off."
* one that plays on gullibility "do this now and you will make a ton of money."

If it's a phone call, hang up and call back the known number and ask for a manager.
If it's an e-mail, beware scammers' ability to make it look like the real thing.
Don't click on links you're unsure of.
Don't give out credit card details, banking info, etc.

Speaking from experience: last year a scammer got us to hand over control of the computer while he "checked for malware" (duh!) then offered to give it back for a few thousand; hence the new computer.

How are you coping with it?

Had a good few tonight, granted.

By my user name, I’m now mid 50s. This week I’ve been to a funeral of a friend’s relative who was in their 60s. I have a friend dying of cancer and another in a stroke ward who was fine until this time last week.

Today I went for a walk and it was a park run in chaddy park. A lot of men older then me, running and all these bright young things loving life.

I don’t like getting old. How you all
Coping with it?

Growing old is f'kn awful mate, and so is your health deteriorating, but it's all part of the ageing process, and we can't prevent it happening ..... I'm 69 now, i go to the doctors and he's only got time to listen to one health complaint, when I could probably reel off half a dozen!

44 is not old. I was just saying yesterday that the legal drinking age should be 38 instead of 18 as you’re starting to get a clue by then

It is so easy to feel pressured into something, so easily, the scams are so real these days, it is scary

Same for me job wise. I have one of those walker thread mill things. I bought in June last year and I’ve used it twice. I have weights here and a rowing machine. I have all the kit, but my motivation is zero, which seeing as the diabetes symptoms are worsening - foot neuropathy - is a shameful thing on my part.

I’m 67 due to retire in June and reckon us FOCs of this era can probably say we’ve lived through the best time ever living in the UK -escaping completely rashioning post war and the shit show that appears on the horizon for the generations behind us. Even City came good In time for our generation to witness it. We are old but have seen good times.

64 next week, self employed and still working 4 days a week. Feel very fortunate to have my health at the moment anyway, a little worried about stopping work completely, but will drop to 2 or 3 days next year. My dad died shortly after his 60th birthday and in all honesty, I'm just greatfull to still be around.

I'm hobbling around with torn meniscus, or cartlidge, in my right knee, as a result of slipping on the wet cobbles where I live (i was only putting the bin bag out, ffs!) ..... and to cap it off I've now got that f'kn plantar fasciitis in my left foot, which is a right pain in the arse, i mean foot, lol !!

Am sick of it .... I think I'll get myself a nice pair of roller skates!

Easy tiger. And if I’m middle aged I’m living until I’m 110 - fuck that.

I am getting old, slowly but surely and that was the point of the thread :-)
It's hard. My Friday this week consisted of going to a funeral and my Dad having a stroke. :( I remember my ex's Dad from about 20 years ago saying wait until you get older, you spend more time going to funerals and dealing with situations than anything else. Life becomes very morbid...but in the words of Monty Python.....
