North Stand Construction Discussion

While Jim is allowing the thread to go off topic for a bit longer, and people are calling the towers shit, etc, one last post from me on the subject.

You’ll be able to see the whole city centre skyline from the viewing platforms on the new NS roof. I can’t wait. :-)

Fantastic!

I went to the Etihad yesterday to do a picture update, but I forgot about the women’s match was on.

I’ll do a picture update on Saturday if the weather is OK?

It’s been a while since my last picture update.

Saying that, work seems to have slowed to a snails pace across the construction site. I think we’re now getting into the bitty part of the construction where endless small jobs need completing, and there doesn’t seem to be much visible change across the stand and the hotel.

Last week coming out of the Galatasaray match in the dark some of the lights inside the hotel had been left on and you could see that room fit out is happening. I think the external construction maybe down to final fitting and seamingly slowed but the internal fit outs are moving at a pace.

For me the biggest external change to come will be the installation of the screens on the gable walls of the hotel and commercial building. I'm still surprised they've not done this yet as it must be a lucrative revenue generating opportunity.

Agreed. The CIS tower was the lone "skyscraper" for years (you could see the illuminated letters from our house in Longsight). Then the Arndale tower came along*. But this past 15-20 years has been crazy for the "Manc-hattan" skyline....

With apparently plenty more to come. Maybe it's just me channeling my inner FOC, but the city seems to be losing some of its character with these buildings.

*I think the CIS was the first?
I worked in the CIS building in the 80's
I used to go up to the observation floor 27 or 28 (I think)? and loved looking out over the city on a regular skive break and lunchtime. I went up so often I bought some binoculars.
In '62 when it opened it was the tallest building in the UK and 3rd in Europe.
Today I read that a new tower is going up in M'cr that is just over twice its size!
Personally I'd love to live high up.
Thread de-rail over sorry.

Obviously there’s a lot of money in the screens installation , maybe they are concerned about damage , I wouldn’t be surprised if it were scheduled at the very end ( even after the etfe roof ) of the build programme

Don’t think the cladding contractor going into administration has helped !

Not in any particular order.

The 3 big tasks remaining are the screens, as you say, the remainder of the roof walk, and the roof and front covering the fan zone. Apart of those three tasks, I can’t think of any other big tasks that need finishing.

Out of my control. I gave up modding a few weeks back. A thankless, time consuming gig. And whatever you did, you'd get some cun poster whinging.

Maybe the power supply isn't ready yet also as someone pointed out possible damage during construction
We have the Skywalk and City Square roof to look forward to externally probably more interesting than the panels for the screens of which there are six in total including the 3 above the stage in the square

Off thread, but I used to do the same when I worked there. One point though, it was the 25th floor :)

2 at the back, 1 on the side of the hotel facing the Asda side.
Agreed in part but all previous renders showed 3 screens under the etfe roof ! So assume it’s a design change ? Tbf 3 screens did seem a bit of overkill :-)
