Sir Keir Starmer

the QT discussion about the Mandelson affair seemed to assume that Starmer knew about everything when Mandelson was appointed. Much seems to have been buried in the Epstein files. Fiona Bruce tried to raise the "at the time of appointment" was quite important but the panellists didn't seem too interested.

Pretty much no-one knows what he knew, what the vetting processes provided to McSweeney or Starmer, yet apparently it's a certainty that Starmer knew everything.

I don't think that "he provided real-time cabinet decisions to Epstein" would have been ignored at the time, so I doubt Starmer knew. It seems quite plausible that Starmer's comments yesterday that it's obvious that Mandelson answered weaselly but there's no guarantee that it was obvious at the time; Mandelson is still a Privy Councillor so presumably was considered in good enough standing.

It does seem clear that the vetting process needed to be more robust - does MI5/MI6 get involved in such appointments, and how much? It seems unlikely that they would delve into everything for years back, and I can't imagine that any govt is going to tell anyone the details.

I did enjoy the really quite awful Zia Yusuf pontificating on QT about how vetting is essential and trying to turn questions. No surprise that his response when Nathan Gill's name was brought up by Fiona Bruce that his immediate comment was "I didn't know him" in the hope that no-one would notice that he was indulging in shaky rhetoric.

What do those two departments actually do? They managed to cock-up with the Manchester bomber, and even though the families have tried to get an investigation it has all been brushed under the carpet.

It does make me wonder about the security services. They seem pretty shit at warning about wrong 'uns. Not just this - think of all the years that Thatcher and the present King were allowed to be besties with 'Sir' Jimmy Savile.

It smacks of either gross incompetence or a mind-boggling degree of corruption. Neither is reassuring in the context of national security.

I've no idea, but it seems in vogue to blame them.

No matter who is in government they seem to stumble from one scandal to another, with todays social media feeding changing narratives I can't see how a political party or politician can survive in the spotlight.

There's been rumours for years about ex-prince Andrew being a wrongun, so I'm going to go with 'corruption'. They knew.

Let’s not forget PM was the best man for the US ambassador job and was doing very well! Starmer didn’t know he was Epstein bestie and is as shocked as all of us. Not sure why he’s getting slated for this

Should have kept Corbyn, those on here that pushed him out of Labour, with what proved to be lies, got what they paid for, the total destruction of all Labour beliefs, shame on you. It is time for the TUC to withdraw it`s funding from Labour, because of this man and friends of Israel who fund him, Labour actively work against TUC members, and pensioners, small businesses the NHS, the unemployed, we;; just about everyone who is not a billionaire.

Starmer = fucked
Rayner = her Financial sleaze at this time is too similar to the mandelson type greed to get in now (she needs KS to stay for a bit longer)
Burnham = can’t get a seat
Streeting = too close to Mandy
Milliband = the next PM by June. Put your bets on. But God help us as he means Farage kills it in 2029.

Mark my words

Why did they get rid of Michael Foot!!

Part of Starmers problem is that you can lay it all out in very simple terms and it looks and sounds not just corrupt but incredibly stupid as well.

The only way I can see Starmer surviving this himself is if he gets rid of McSweeney and a few others and kills the Palantir deal.

Try and brand it as a massive clear out of corrupt figures in the background or something.

Even if he does all that he’ll probably still be done after Gorton, so unlikely to see March as PM.

Any opposition Party merely has to re-print the bacon sandwich photo and he's dead. As for his obsession with Green issues it's helping kill the country
