Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I know I'm banging on about it but I still think that VAR should be compelled to take into account how a passage of play would have developed had a red card offence not taken place. No red card offence, Szlobodanzle gets nowhere near Haaland, foul couldn;t happen, goal stands.

BECAUSE AN ADVANTAGE WAS BEING PLAYED.
Genuine questions here - does the ref have to actually signal advantage to confirm that is what he is playing? Or can we assume by him not stopping play immediately that this was his intention?

I know in this case he didn't because there was literally a couple of seconds between the advantage "being given" and the "goal".

Also: I'm sure Ive heard in the past that refs dont give advantages in a situation that would be a red card - presumably to stop the soon-to-be-expelled player from playing any further part in the move.... something that clearly played out yesterday.

Exactly that

Liverpool tactics.
Foul anything that moves in their own half and attack as fast as possible. No finesse without Klopp. How we finished up with more fouls than Liverpool shows the usual bias.

This is kind of what I'm alluding to. I think play has to continue, because if he'd blown and stopped play there would have been no goal, but it does feel like a player who wouldn't be on the pitch because of the offence he just committed should be taken out of the equation in the subsequent passage of play.

The other point being made is one about common sense. The letter of the law was applied, but fans are getting a bit sick of VAR being a blunt instrument that time and time again kills the joy in the game. Yesterday's situation should be one where the ref should be able to rule (assisted by VAR if necessary) "On the balance of play, with two fouls having been committed, the goal stands and no red card is awarded".

I don’t think they had finesse with Klopp, their style of play was press a team to death and cause chaos playing pin ball football in the final 3rd.

Probably wrong but because we generate so many chances to score I feel that the Ch method of passing the ball into the net is better within the penalty box.

Rules are rules. One of the biggest problems in football is officials bending the rules to suit their agenda.

Who has advantage there? The ball was going in anyway! Haaland scores if he wasn’t pulled back! But yeah var gets involved!
Exactly. The goal was disallowed because Haaland was penalised for fouling a person who was penalised for fouling him and denying him a clear goalscoring opportunity, even though a goal ended up being scored? It’s insane.

Just imagine if this goal was chalked off , if there was still 10/15 mins left , And Liverpool somehow managed to score! The chaos!
