Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Just like the Henderson handball at Wembley? They managed to turn a blind eye to that so why not do the same yesterday?

Are you saying you want bad decisions in our favour, or the laws are not important if it benefits City.
The Henderson decision was corrupt in my opinion, I just want to see parity and honest decisions which are correct and adhere to the laws of football.

Did anybody get that total feeling of dread about 45 seconds after the 3rd goal that wasn't? The dickhead commentator starts going "Ooh wait there! Major controversy" etc etc. For a few seconds I genuinely thought it was that penalty claim just before the breakaway. I absolutely shit my kecks. Never been so happy to see the VAR for a goal we'd scored. Twoz an horrible 10 or 15 seconds I don't mind telling ya.

Ref’s discretion is exactly for this sort of situation. ignore the tussle and give the goal. Shirt pulling is endemic.
The match doesn't exist in a bubble, it affects the rest of the league.
Slabozhoweveryouspellit doesn't get suspended and would play against Sunderland, which they wouldn't be happy about just cos ref decided to ref the game for drama and vibes rather than the rules.

We would also have a better goal difference that could matter at the end too.

VAR only sent the ref to the monitor amidst all the confusion .. it was the ref who took their advice and made the decision, and he did it pretty fast too.

It was unclear whether the ref had initially given the goal or not ... even half the city players didn't know as they celebrated in the corner with the fans .... it was utter confusion..

If VAR wasn't around the ref would still have seen the two fouls, and he'd have had to make his mind up what he wanted to do about that.
That’s all conjecture. The goal was given and VAR overturned it. If the goal had been ruled out by the ref there would be no reason for VAR to intervene.

Yep and I think it’s why I’m fairly sanguine about the third being disallowed. I thought they were taking it back for a penalty to Liverpool.

I’ll be controversial and say Haaland was MOTM. Imagine the resilience and maturity to slot that penalty into the net against a world class keeper diving the right way at Anfield, a place we haven’t won at in front of the scouser scum fans since 2003. All or nothing in extra time. Furthermore, it’s our first double against them since 1936/1937. Add to that, it was a crucial 3 points, we were a goal down and Haaland assisted Bernardo’s goal.

Having said that, Bernardo deserved the accolades too.

We should have been awarded that 3rd goal though. VAR is destroying the passion of the sport.

Header into Bernardo’s path with a quickly changing direction on the ball before hand was very good too from Haaland.

Can't even believe it, still celebrating that today. We won at Anfield. Absolutely massive that.
Hope that gives them that boost that we really, really needed and can put this last month or so firmly behind us. Wasn't amazing but still beat one of the best sides in the world on their home patch. Champions stuff that.

Shout out to the FA and referees still trying their hardest to throw spanners in the works. We're playing against an extra man every game and we need to start treating it that way.

Buzzing!

I think both sides would have preferred the goal to stand, now Liverpool have lost a player and our goal difference was slightly reduced as a result. VAR is making everything fun about the game redundant, and the authorities need to sort it out.

Nevertheless, we deserved that win, again we were on top and in control first half, then on the back foot second half, but the lads did well to get the win.

Me too. I honestly thought amid all the euphoria that the goal was going to be disallowed and a penalty given to Liverpool. For a few seconds I faced the prospect of a winning goal at Anfield being removed and a penalty to Liverpool taking its place. And given the history of decisions in this fixture against us, for a few of those seconds I was convinced it was going to happen.
Never been so relieved as I honestly believe I would have had a stroke if that had been what happened.

“WW1 Xmas day 1914” Captain Black Adder, turns to his insufferable sidekick corporal Baldrick, and inquires how are they going to turn turn around a one goal deficit against the Jerry’s. Baldrick standing next to Sergent Major Guehi, Well Sir, I have a cunning plan!
Just for clarity, Baldrick was a Private not a Corporal :-)

If that 3rd goal yesterday would have been allowed to stand, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

The laws (of football) are an ass in this instance, any other game and a penalty goal would have been awarded. Just get the laws changed for the benefit of all.
