Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

They are always gonna stick to the rules even if VAR isn't around ... the ref sees the ball enter the net, but he's also seen two fouls just before it did, one from each side, so even though he may initially have handed Haaland the advantage, he then sees the Liverpool player pushed to the floor by Haaland, possibly denying him the chance to clear it .... so he was never gonna give the goal.

The Liverpool player was red carded for trying to stop Haaland in the first place, and denying him a clear goal scoring opportunity, even though the ball still ended up in the net lol!
Didn't Pawson give the goal. That's why the VAR sent him to the monitor?

The general consensus of the dips in the office this morning is that they were the better side, we were slightly better first half but they battered us 2nd half & the referee was on our side from start to finish.
Fucking hell, not the game i saw at all

Yep and I think it’s why I’m fairly sanguine about the third being disallowed. I thought they were taking it back for a penalty to Liverpool.
I also thought the referee was going over to the VAR monitor to award Liverpool a penalty in the buildup to our 3rd. Going from 1:3 to 2:2 would have been tough to take. Was a huge relief to see it was just ruling out our goal.

I'm fairly certain that Cherki passed the ball into space for Haaland or perhaps O'Reilly (if he saw him) to tap in. If he'd been going for goal himself he'd have put more of his foot through the ball.
It was just a superb decision, roll it towards goal with enough on it.

At the time it was literally the funniest thing and moment of the season so far, the type of incident people want to see in a match. A "were you there, did you see moment".

And those officials took it away with the rulebook. Laws of the game are broken repeatedly every single game and a blind eye is turned.

When in the history of football has a refereeing decision been overturned to negatively impact BOTH teams?

I quite liked Slott when he first came to Pool. Calm on the touchline, no histrionics. It’s a shame he has gone full Klopp now. Must be something in the air off the Mersey.
You mean the tiny angry precum cock ?

Better sides take the sledgehammer blow of their free kick going in, dust themselves off and then get themselves back into the game and then get a winner. They played for 30 minutes tops in that match.

Yeah. I immediately thought it was gonna be brought back for a Liverpool penalty when I heard VAR check.

I’m not sure the game would have restarted for a while if that happened such was the atmosphere. Would have proper gone off.

If that 3rd goal yesterday would have been allowed to stand, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

The laws (of football) are an ass in this instance, any other game and a penalty goal would have been awarded. Just get the laws changed for the benefit of all.
Just wait until we get really had over when the laws are applied at some point. A few on here will be MIA.

Great win

I have now seen us win in person at Anfield

Not sure what else this club can do for me that they have not already

I love City so much
I was at the Boxing Day 1981 3-1 victory. Am so pleased for you, I hope you got away safely. Its a shyttehole of a ground though. The entire area around feels unsafe.

I've never been back since and never will. It is only the fact that I was there with my Dipper boyf (at the time, I didn't marry him) and his brother that actually stopped me from being physically attacked by grown men who were effing and jeffing and threatening me. I'm tall so can look after self but I wouldn't have stood l chance. I hate that place and their rabid cult fans.

I was young so I can forgive my choice of early 80s boyf, but I'll always be grateful to him and bro that day. Tbf they both took our victory in good heart, I think living out Wiggin way at the time had smoothed out some scouse edginess!!

Me too. I honestly thought amid all the euphoria that the goal was going to be disallowed and a penalty given to Liverpool. For a few seconds I faced the prospect of a winning goal at Anfield being removed and a penalty to Liverpool taking its place. And given the history of decisions in this fixture against us, for a few of those seconds I was convinced it was going to happen.
Never been so relieved as I honestly believe I would have had a stroke if that had been what happened.
