The Squad planning thread

Out:
Stones, ake, kovacic and bernardo.
Trafford and marmoush if they push for moves, which i think they will, especially trafford.

In:
Right back, Anderson and replacements for trafford and marmoush if required.
NOR to push to midfield but option at left back to cover as is gvardiol.
Reis to be in the squad.

Another proper winger required then if Marmoush leaves?

Not for me. I think we have enough wing options with semenyo, doku and savinho all being proper wingers and able to play both sides along with foden and cherki who can play wide if we want to invert more.
I'd look for someone who can play up front to replace haaland as needed but also be able to play just behind him too.
Tevez sort of profile.

Is that not Marmoush anyway though? Game time for that level of player with our current system means they arent going to replace Erling for big games?

It's the hardest position in the squad to recruit for. No one overwhelmingly good enough will be dumb enough to sacrifice playing time for the odd cup/mid-low table league game, but it's also a bit much to ask of an academy player.

Up to it up to it

What about Mubama?
He is the nearest we have to Haaland , obviously nowhere near that level.
He could be a direct replacement for Haaland at the end of games and cup games.
Looks a little more " cultured " than Delap, is the England U21's no.9, physically strong , good in the air and no financial outlay involved.
The worst that can happen is that he isn't up to it but can stil be loaned out or sold in the Xmas

Yeah although he tends to play more wide than just off the striker but I'd be happy to keep him it's just whether he wants to move on to be the main man somewhere like alvarez did

I wouldn't be opposed to Mubama at all. Perfect opportunity for him and no risk for us. I just haven't watched him all that much to know how good he is, but I'll trust the bunch here who rate him.

I think Viana and the club are keeping an eye on Said el Mala 19 year old right winger/ left wing as well with 7 goals and 2 assists in the bundesliga, plays like a young Leroy Sane according to German journalists. Our scouts have been looking at him for a couple games now apparently also there was links earlier in the season. A few big clubs are looking at him.

If Marmoush does go I want a proper winger to replace him. I like Nusa as well

Interesting.

Where do you see Doku, Foden and Reijnders playing in this formation?

O’Reilly is he back up for Anderson or Ait Nouri?

Nunes, I assume you have as back up to Trent?
What about injuries ? Not saying it will alway be our formation but it would probably be our best. Foden has been poor and is city through and through he won’t leave.

Even if we played traditional RB / LB we need a new RB and a midfielder

I like this as as second string or could replace Savinho with Rijnders

Only issue might be that’s 4 senior CB plus Alleyne.

Which assume they stay fit more than the current batch which is likely but not certain would be be ok but wouldn’t fancy the second line up to be Khusanov and Alleyne just yet outside of cup games

For a while now I have liked the idea of City having a back 3. The only issue is we simply don’t have the players in other positions further up the pitch to suit that formation, it would require a lot of tweaking the squad.

As you found out when trying to come up with a 2nd team with remaining squad players, we would need to change the formation, as some of the players left out wouldn’t suit the 3-2-4-1.

I have tried it myself with. 3 at the back, and it would mean wholesale changes to the squad, and I don’t think that will happen.

Realistic line up next year ?
Can't see us going 352 and can't see us buying Arnold.Personally think we continue with 4222 mainly as think it suits the squad as it is especially if we buy Anderson and a right back we'd have pretty much 2 players for every position in a 4222.
Can't do fancy graphice:) but
Donnarumma / Trafford ?
Nunes/ ???? Dias/Khusonov Guehi /Gvardiol Ait Nouri/ O'Reilly
Rodri/Gonzalez Anderson?/ O'Reilly
Cherki/ Lewis Foden/ Reijnders
Haaland/ Marmoush Semenyo/ Doku

McAidoo Reis Savinho Bettenelli

Right backs linked Wesley, Read and Kayode, from that I'm guessing Nunes is the main right back and we are looking for a young prospect to take up the back up role but someone who is good enough to provide serious competition to Nunes.

Wesley 22 years old
Kayode 21 years old
Read 19 years old

Wesley and Read may settle to be a back up to start but Kayode imo would want to be the starter? Unless in a crazy way, Mendes gets a big move to say Saudi and we sign Kayode and Read?

I’d be looking to move Sav on before Marmoush
I can't see Pep moving either on this summer unless one or both may want to leave themselves.
We have lots leaving as it is and replacing those that are freeing up squad spaces needs to be addressed first.

True tho I don’t think line ups matter that much to Pep or any manager these days it’s about being in the right place at the right time. Nunes Gvardiol and O Reilly also like to get forward even tho I would have them lining up in a traditional LB RB slot.

Trent seems like a too good opportunity to ignore.

Anderson seems close to done.

Assuming no one wants to leave other than the ones we probably want to move on / out of contract that’s a not a big change which is good and also probably completes the rebuild and brings the age down and brings in association trained players
