Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Agreed. I don’t get the hand-wringing over our second half performance today. We weren’t brilliant but we weren’t terrible. Newcastle are a decent side and you can’t stop a team having the ball for the whole 90.
They seemed to have more chances in the first half when we appeared to play better overall. My main worry about our second half performances in general is that we seem to make too many unforced errors all over the pitch. But nowt to worry about if a "great team" like Newcastle can't take advantage.

Idk about you fellas but to me this win feels like a loss because of how we played, ESPECIALLY in the 2nd half. It frustrated me like nothing else this season. We had 1 week of rest and played at home (+should've been massively motivated because of Assna dropping points) while Newcastle had only 3 days and had to travel to f-ing Azerbaijan right before that and played away. Yet we were the ones who played like we haven't had a single day of rest! Midfield constantly overloaded, attack missing sitters left, right and centre while the fullbacks were leaking every time Newcastle was attacking. This was a horrendous display but I feel like barely anyone will talk about it because we somehow won in the end. Our physios definitely need sacking and Pep needs to play Cherki since minute 1, like how on earth are you keeping a player of his caliber on the bench despite him being the only one that brings any sort of creativity (and presence) in the midfield??
Fucking hell; you must have been a barrel of laughs in the 90s.

Phew. Held strong second half but that was a side that had to go halfway across the world 3 days ago, we should have gotten stronger in the second half. Reallu got to sort out our second half performances. Job done though, some cracking performances all over the pitch, noticeable upturn in commitment lead by the guys who have been there and done it before, will need that for the rest of the season. Now we can sit back and see what arsenal have, they should win comfortably but you never know.

I think it’ll be arsenal.
I hope I’m wrong, I hope we can win it.
But our second half performances are terrible.

One team had a 5000 mile round trip and played a game midweek.
If you watched the game and was asked to guess which one it was I’m not sure many people would choose Newcastle.

My big worry is as the season goes on, as the CL games come back in we’re going to get leggier in second half’s and drop points.

Like I said, I hope we do win it but they have 2 points on us already, they’re having a blip currently, we’ll both drop points and I think Arsenal will hand on.

Don’t get me wrong it’s a good win, it’s a huge result and I’m happy with it. I’m just trying to be realistic.
Two points, it should be 13!! Two points ha ha, never recoverable :)

wins like that win you titles

This team looks completely different with Doku on the pitch. He allows for more sustained pressure and better ball retention, meaning opponents can’t just fly at our goal like they do when Marmoush plays.
Doku can win a foul 20 yards from our own goal and be at the edge of the opposition box a minute later. I really hope he’s back soon—otherwise, Cherki needs more minutes because we’re desperately lacking both stability and creativity

Yes! For all the "second half drop off" they had a handful of decent chances and a goal in the first half and created fuck all in the second.

Jesus Christ could be the worst post of all time lmao, Cherki was dog shit when he came on as well.

Great performances all over the pitch tonight. Moaned like fuck about the 8pm but that was class tonight. Top atmosphere too.

A very good first half and unlucky to concede a goal via a deflection.
Second half I thought our work rate was better but our concentration levels were poor at times.
Needlessly giving the ball away and should’ve done better when we broke on goal quite a few times, poor passing and indecision made it harder than it needed to be.
Huge 3 points and puts the pressure back on the arse.
COME ON CITY!!!

Quick query, the cross that came in that led to the corner they scored from, weren’t two players in an offside position? Flag should have gone up surely, Anyone got a still from the game?
