Will we win the league this season? No

Not disagreeing with your wider point and you're correct about the Spurs defeat in particular as our performance was bereft of energy and direction.

I'd forgotten all about the anger following the Southampton cup defeat albeit that was more.to do with Pep's team selection, and me being stupid enough to travel to St Mary's

However my original post was referring to the period since the collapse at Tottenham last month,.and how we're somehow back in the title race on the strength of an emotional late victory at Anfield and Arsenal dropping silly points.

Regardless of players returning from injury I just don't see us controlling and dictating possession like we've enjoyed in previous seasons and some of these issues will only be addressed in the next transfer window.

It doesn't mean that we can't still win the title but it doesn't feel as though we're in full control

This City team have different strengths: more physicality and pace.

Your control point is a bit overblown. Newcastle barely created good chances in the 2nd half. Liverpool created one big chance and scored a very unlikely goal. We created better chances than them in the 2nd halves.

There are tread-offs with this City: less control but more opportunities for deadly counters. We struggled in the 2nd half vs Newcastle partly because we messed up 5-6 counters because of poor final passes or decisions. On another day we win that game 4:1.

Amex?
Craven Cottage?
White Hart Lane?

It's been happening all season mate, but as I said earlier, it doesn't mean we can't still win the PL

It also doesn't mean that we can't improve significantly.

In most of those games in which we suffered we were without Rodri (in form) or Gvardiol/Guehi or Dias. Currently, we have a new defence (Guehi + RAN), a new midfield (Rodri, O'Reilly), and a new attack (Semenyo). They need time to gel. Add Doku and we are likely to improve over the next weeks and months.

You're here arguing otherwise?
Why, because we didn't beat them that means they must be good in some way?
I think you’re a bit confused.

Spurs are shit and yet they took 2 points off us, which is outrageous in the circumstances.

Hope this clears it up.

I've posted time and again that Arsenal are my favorite to win the league. Because they are so deep.

At the same time, I've posted that I could change my mind due to WInter window signings.

We absolutely nailed it on summer signings.

And moreover, we have fixed our shit midfield -with Nico O'Reilly. With Nico in mid, we have the potential to field an aggressive midfield who will press aggressively at all times to protect our high line and will make our system work.

If O'Reilly is injured and can't play... I think we're in trouble.

I still favor Arsenal to win the league - but, it's much, much, much more likely that we will win the league due to our summer signings and playing a much more ball-winning mid, featuring O'Reilly...

But what if O'Reilly, IMO our most important player ATM is injured... then we're fucked.

In reality they've just played two relegation contenders and dropped 2 points.
Before you write off their appetite for the fight, remember that one of those relegation contenders gave us a 2-goal start and we still couldn't beat them. That's the one that they've just absolutely schooled, by the way.

I think that both will drop points in several games. Feel that we'll just shade it (at the moment I do, anyway - no doubt this will change back and forth a few times).

I think what the win at Liverpool showed us is we also have the mentality to make a title challenge. How many City teams of the past, with much stronger ljne-ups on paper, have s**t the bed when visiting a full Anfield ? Also I'm not over concerned with our second half drop offs, there's a definite element of game management coming into it, I think Pep recognised at the start of the season that he didn't have the strength in depth that he had previous seasons, hence the much reduced squad rotation. So some of the players have probably played more time than he would have wanted. The return of Rodri and the Jan recruits have also helped massively in this regard. It's a marathon not a sprint, Pep recognises this maybe Arteta maybe less so as he still seems to play the same players despite the so-called strength in depth of the Arsenal squad, Eze has hardly played at all for example.

Do you mean January signings?

I'm personally not reading much into yesterday's Goons result. Spurs were beyond inept, it should of been 10. I know we failed to put the fuckers away, but that was on our toes not theirs. If we keep winning then they'll 100% crack. However, the big question is, can we keep winning ? I certainly fucking hope so!

Just pointing out that a lot of the doubters main reason for thinking we would come up short a month or so ago when we had arsenal still in our sights was that we still had away matches at United, Spurs & Liverpool.

Well those fixtures are all behind us now and Arsenal potentially only have a 2 point lead

I have no idea what the hell you're even arguing against at this point.

This one might go right down to the wire and change game to game. After Newcastle I had us as slight favourites but now put them marginally ahead following their demolition of a hopefully relegation bound Spurs. If there is a winner of the six pointer in April that might seal it. Them having more home games I think might be to our advantage as the finishing line approaches. The fear of defeat is a powerful force which for them seems to get magnified in front of their own people.

Agreed , they smashed Leeds 4-0 and Sunderland 3-0 after they lost at home to United, but then followed that with those draws against Brentford and Wolves.

This is a key difference between City and Arsenal. They are a mature side built over Arteta's 7 years as coach whilst this City side are developing. Most of the current City side were bought in the last 3 transfer windows, and then we have Nico O'Reilly coming through.

There are only 11 league games remaining though so there's little time for evolution now. I think it does affect how City fans think about our side. They think of mistakes and defeats that perhaps the current side would not make.

I don’t think the Prem give a shit about things like that. I would imagine it will be Sunday 4.30 as that is their premium slot.
100%. I'd put my last quid on it being Sunday 16:30, thats if I hadn't already lost it on magic beans, the rights to the Brooklyn bridge and the patent for Tartain paint.

This weekend is a tough one for us both. Leeds away is tricky, as is facing Chelsea for them. We are at it and so I fancy us for a win. If Chelsea can hold them to a draw we are that bit closer.

Of course it could all go the other way! This is why it’s fucking brilliant at this stage to more than be in the conversation. We know what to do, and they know how to bottle it. It’s going to be some couple of months ahead and I cannot fucking wait.

I'm glad we play first again. Hopefully we win, it's good for us that Arsenal will go into a game against Chelsea feeling they need to win.

Chelsea showed in the league cup 2nd leg that they can get something at the Emirates and that was without Reece James and Palmer. I know they got beat at the end of that game but that's only because they had to push to win it.
Whereas if the same scenario plays out this time, it'd be the opposite with Arsenal needing to take risks.

If Arsenal can beat Spurs 1-4, why couldn’t City beat Spurs and at least hold on to a 2 goal lead for 45 minutes?

It was a dreadful 2nd half performance and capitulation after a dominant first half performance against a very average and poor spurs team.

Thankfully it’s still in our hands to win the title.
And if City beat Wolves away 4 nil why couldn’t Arsenal beat them.
