Denton and Gorton by-election - Green Party wins

Over the moon with this result. Have my reservations about green, and time will tell if they are competent, but it was the result i was hoping for. With the demographics is lev it would have been horrendous to have a racist little weird wank stain like goodwin in as our MP. A good day and good to show the country the north is not reform.

If you don't think we will be heading in the direction of the US under Reform then you are very naive.

He knows fine well what direction the country will go in if that waste of flesh gets in, it's just that that's what he and those like him desire. They want an equivalent of the current incarnation of ICE in the UK.

I think that the House of Lords and the courts will be stumbling blocks to wild swings in the UK.

I don't see Reform getting a huge majority, and holding it together in the face of the one Farage-one vote leadership may be tricky. I think there will be large amounts of tactical voting which will make predictions difficult.

They're supposed to be impartial so I'm reluctant to call them out. However, Manchester council criticised them last night for not highlighting these "issues" while voting was still going on
They do look to be a genuine company which has been going for a while but also seems weird/suspicious that last night was the first time practically anyone had heard of them...

The Greens are radical but doesn't their election prove that people want something radical? Politics is not working for people, nothing is working and the same-old isn't working either. People haven't become more radical, they're just being given something to vote for and something that provably could actually win.

The most obvious thing to come out of this is just how screwed Labour are in their current guise. This type of seat is their bread and butter.

With recent events I just cannot see how Starmer can last another week and his critical mistake again was putting himself above party by refusing to allow Burnham to stand.
He'll hang in until May.

Would the Green vote hold up in a GE? Not to the extent of what happened this morning but, Green councillors would be a great benefit I think and they could make the sort of gains Reform made last time.

Family voting is where the clan leader supervises the placement of the X.
Sounds like MP’s voting for a policy they hate, because the Party leader tells them to. Think it’s called party unity and loyalty when it’s done, rather than family voting but sounds like the exact same thing…

I’m not misrepresenting anything, they are actively saying these things, I am repeating them and rightly calling out the problems with what they are saying.

Blaming Starmer for Gaza is ludicrous and you should know that. “Kick Starmer for Gaza” is a shameful tactic. He’s taken positions against the Israeli government in direct opposition to their Gaza policy and whilst no doubt you’ll say he didn’t go far enough, he’s not to blame for what’s happening there.

I’m sat here scratching my head reading what you’re writing but I’m adult enough to recognise people will disagree with me and have a right to do so.

lEgAlIzE dRuGs you've mooted multiple times, oPeN bOrDeRs also.

Neither of these things are accurate in shallow way you're portraying them, which you either don't know or do know and are acting in bad faith, which is the more likely.

Starmer isn't the reason for the current situation, but again, under him, we've sold them weapons, and used British servicemen to aid in Israel's campaign as current. I'm not gonna turn this into a debate on the Gaza conflict because there's a thread for it, but you're being again, either ignorant of reality or selective of it.

Scratch your head all you want, the many people ratio-ing you on my responses seem to know what I'm talking about.

All I read from that is Muslims bad unless they make our football club win and we sell them weapons so they're on our side. Says it all.

Yeah, it seems odd. And how would all those involved in so-called "family voting" know to put their cross in the box of the eventual winning party when this was always being touted as a genuine 3-way battle? Also, I saw a screenshot online - although it could be fake to be fair - of someone with 2 ballot papers with a cross in the Reform box for both, and stating "Yessss sent mine and mum's", so any alleged skulduggery wasn't limited to just voting for one particular party

a practise that began yesterday?
Its been going on forever, that's how they lived in their previous countries. It's tribal, they live as one huge 'family', I know of one where I live and they have a 'Mister Big' in charge who dictates what they can and can't do. It's the complete opposite of how Western society works.

who the fuck are Democracy Volunteers and what is family voting?

Googled family voting and I can find no reference to it on line until the early hours of today. It couldn't be a pre-prepared excuse for losing invented by Reform Ltd could it?

I think democracy volunteers are a reputable group.

Family voting is coercing family members to vote as directed. It's real, not just in ethnic minorities though, and its definitely not why Reform lost here.

Absolutely disgraceful. Reading some of his tweets this week makes me think he's looking to become the next far right politician for Reform.
He deserves the backlash that is coming his way.

The alt right love to bang on about cancel culture and freedom of speech. The reality is that he is free to say offensive things and we are free to chose how we view him as a result. If he gets blocked and ignored then what is that but freedom.
