The Squad planning thread

Madrid going all out for Rodri. Coming from a top source for Madrid in Ramon Alvarez.

If he won’t commit then sell him!
I rather have him until the end of his contract than sell him, would still give us time to persuade him to stay too, plus another yer of Gonzalez improving. He’s getting back to being the best 6 around again, prefer another year of that ,if that’s all it is, than any fee.

Would rather keep Rodri and let him go for free then a fee, but yes not the unsellable after his injury

The concern for me is getting rid of both Bernardo and Rodri is the same window, thats a lot of experience and quality gone overnight

Pur best XI currently has both of those, and yes theyre both on the wane but they've been huge for us

I like Nico, I really like him but he isnt ready yet to replace Rodri and I love Anderson, but its asking a lot to be as reliable as Bernardo is

I wonder if Tonali could be available, 2 years left on his deal, no champions league and PSR corners, think Newcastle would be open to it

Think hes quality, and hes prem proven think he will get better with a better team (and manager)

Interesting to see how it plays out

Depends on the fee offered mate?

If rodri actually wants to leave

I cannot fault him for wanting to play in his home country

I can fault him for wanting to go to madrid after they blatantly disrespected him and our club

If rodri wants to leave to finish his career in spain, let him at this point. Sign anderson and don't look back

I think we could easily get £60-70m for Rodri this summer mate if he wants to go
If he wants to go then it’s a different discussion, if he is waiting to see what we can offer in the summer then again I ‘d rather spend the 60mill on keeping him for 3 or 4 years.

Jfelixdiaz who's good for Madrid news saying Madrid would rather sign Wharton or Smit. They appreciate Rodri but his ACL injury has not helped.

So, 2 'good' sources for Madrid contradicting each other. Glad that's cleared up then

If he’s committed then happy days but he’s wanting huge money to stay currently so I’m sure we have our eye on someone if it turns south

One gets info from agents especially Spanish players , the other gets info from Perez/club.

Ramon Alvarez gets info from players agents which means Rodri’s agent has told him something that’s why he’s published that.

Fighting mentality of serial winners, that is hard to replace. Great shout on Tonali.

Did I read that right? olise is performing at a higher level than mahrez ever did??
Olise is nowhere near prime Mahrez lol. You must have one short memory.
Olise is simply not as good as Mahrez, so we disagree there. He is talented, of course. We have a front line of Haaland, Foden, Cherki, Bobb, Savinho, and Doku. I am happy with that...very.
That’d be the treble winning Mahrez that won multiple PLs inc at Leicester. Won trophies galore as well as other achievements like being the first player in over 60 years to score a ht trick in an FA Cup semi final.

But no, you’re right.. Michael Olise, I see it now.
Olise is nowhere near the levels that Mahrez achieved. Totally disrespectful
I think if we sign anyone this summer for the forward group, it should be Olise. Spent some time at City academy.

I took a stupid amount of hate for the Olise > Mahrez take on here last year but I assume you've all come around now. Mahrez obviously brilliant but everyone on here seems to forget he was a rotation player throughout his tenure. I think he was left out of the starting XI 25 times in our treble season. Love the lad. Top player. Not trying to be disrespectful.

But we have Olise with 41 G+A through 37 games this season from the wing. He is in the pool for the Balon d'Or for a second year running and just turned 24 a few months ago. Yes farmers league yada yada but the guy is a joy to watch and his ability is clear (was also clear last season but alas).

I can't see him staying in Germany forever. Too easy. Rumours online that Liverpool, Madrid, and ourselves are interested and that has prompted Bayern to look into a 2 year-contract extension before the World Cup. I think our wingers are all great at what they do, but I'm not sure any are this good. I think he'd be a mainstay in the XI on the right when healthy.

Potential of a double with Kompany and Olise in a few seasons?
