North Stand Construction Discussion

They'll still need to clean it periodically. Nothing on the roof (yet) to suggest tracks for a BMU, or whether it would be a cradle etc. Abseiling would probably be the least practical with the sails, more the shape than the presence. They could do mewps too, apart from obviously the medlock square facades, as it'll be roofed.

As a side (sorry, but I do genuinely say this in good faith), notice the elevations of the office building that were largely covered by scaffolding have zero efflorescence. May appear yet if it got wet, but if they had gone for a covering it fully, bet it wouldn't at all.
Hope the sails are better attached than the ones on the brand new DWP building in the centre of Blackpool....they keep falling off.

The authorities want to reduce car use in absolute terms by ~8% in Greater Manchester by 2040. Car parking is likely to become more difficult.
If they want that they need to lower the price of train tickets .
And put a lot more carriages on.
Getting ripped off to be treated like cattle is for me

Did I read somewhere on here about the possibility of one or two of the games before the end of the season being used as test events? That's looking unlikely now. Will the stand be fully open by Christmas?

Fwiw I don't think it looks unlikely.

I think people possibly see the state of the whole site, but it's only the stand and basic concourse provision that needs finished for it to open. We can't see inside obviously, but given what woukd be involved/needed, and what we see outside, I still think it is doable in April.

Wasn't it originally due to open at the end of January?, did they give a reason for the delay?. I did go on a ground tour in January and the guide said it should be open for the Arsenal game

It was, well initially it was 'the end of 2025'. Then 'early in 2026' which people took as January. Now it is 'this season'.

I suppose technically April is still 'early 2026' and also 'this season '.

I don't think they ever needed to give reasons, as they never gave firm targets.

Question for those in construction, how do they clean up the bricks as they look like seagulls have shat all over them

Bricks are made of clays, and there are many different types of clay minerals all including metal ions within their silicate lattice. Below is an example of a model of the atomic structure of a clay mineral called Kaolin. The ions, or salts, sit in a layer between silicate ions (the red and black pyramids) and are leached out by weathering forming the silvery layer you observe. You can call it dirt, but it's a natural process and in time the salts will be washed away. Clays minerals themselves are formed as a result of weathering of primary minerals.

In the UK, we get China Clay from Cornwall. Cornwall sits about a huge pluton of granite that formed hundreds of millions of years ago. It's magma that never made it to the surface. That granites slowly chemically weathers to form clays which we use to make bricks. It's all a cycle of nature, and understandable through physics and chemistry.

To be honest many weekends there is nothing less than £104 in the city’s travelodges and Premier inss. In fact £104 is a good price, many weekends it’s nothing less than £125
Seems that £185 is the default for Saturdays. It remains to be seen if that rate will stay the same once fixtures are confirmed. I suspect it will go above £200 which isn't uncommon for a quality hotel on a Saturday night in Manchester.
