The Squad planning thread

I think City can compete for titles even if no new players are signed.

Just open the door for all players wanting to leave, then stick with the ones who really wants to be here.

Nunes was a midfielder now he is the best RB in the league
Nico O'Reilly is a #10, now he is one of the best LB and CM players in the league
Talented players can fit anywhere if the will is there.

Doesn’t feel like Viana has done a big extension yet?

Dias, Rico, Savinho and O’Reilly. Not amazing really, all feel very straightforward.

The big man’s 10 year deal arguably the most important but this is another area where I feel we haven’t really kicked on. We’ve added to the team but haven’t really extended our stalwarts.

Rodri feels unlikely but guys like Gvardiol and Doku etc

Viana himself should get a contract extension for refusing offers for Savio & Rico Lewis, without them I am not sure if the team could achieve what it did achieve so far :P

I get that with Lewis, he doesn't look that out of place. Savio I just don't think will ever be good enough.
I don't agree, but that's why we discuss!
He has pace, touch, and dribbling skills.
He can improve his physicality and his final ball, for sure.

It is very, very hard for a young player to break into our first-team and to shine.
Nico O is a very unusual case, but he is blessed with a blend of technique and physicality, the latter allowing him to compete in a way that is simply not available to Lewis and Savinho, who have to develop 'on the job'.
Cherki is a genius, who had five years of first team development before he joined us. He also had a beard at 15!

Agree. I've heard links about Pep wanting Vitinha. If he is interested, we've got to be all over that.

I think if we brought in Anderson and Tonali, I don't think that is technically good enough in the middle. We need a Vitinha, Pedri, De Jong or João Neves to compliment the runner in the midfield. Anderson and Tonali seem to be similar type of players. We need a conductor. Someone who is press resistant in the middle and can control the rhythm of a game.
So vitinha and Anderson ? Is the right mix don’t think Tonali is an option

Im not ready to say goodbye to Rodri just because he said he's thought about playing in Spain before his career is over.

We should be planning this squad around players like him. The spine of the team is pretty amazing - Donna, Great CB's, Rodri, Cherki, Haaland. Long may it continue.

Reading more into it, just seems like Rodri just wants to go back home, hate that it's to Madrid but you can't blame him for wanting to go back home.

my group of players to start the 2026/2027 season

Donnarumma 27
Trafford 23
Bettenili 34

Nunes 28
young right back -25
O'Reilly 21
Ait Nouri 25

Días 29
Khusanov 22
Gvardiol 24
Guehi 26
Reis 20

Nico Gonzalez 24
Anderson 23
Wharton 22
Tonali 26

Cherki 23
Foden 26

Semenyo 26
Doku 24
Savinho 22
Haaland 26

The Anderson + Wharton + Tonali project is expected to cost around £230 million.

The price of a right-back should be in the region of 30 to 50 million pounds sterling

expenses ≈ 280 million sterling

The players we should release:

Grealish 25M
Ake 15M
Akanji 15M
Kovacic 15M
Max alleyne 15M
Rico Lewis 20M
Reijnders 35M
Marmoush 60M
Rodri 60M
Bernardo 0
Stones 0
K Philips 0

≈260 million pounds sterling
Lol

More I think about it , if we are to sign two midfielders if Rodri leaves, then it would be a risk to sign Tonali as he will probably want to go back to Italy at some point. Maybe we should go for Anderson and Gibbs White. 23 and 26 so you can rebuild the midfield with them.

A lot of players and even Pep have given similar interviews over the years. I’m not reading too much into it until the start of next season/rumblings he’s rejected a contract extension.

For years Bernie said similar things and his recent interview saying about that but how much he loves it here. Rodri, like Bernie before, is just being honest and probably being asked non stop by Spanish media as they are all puppets for Madrid.

Getting the Ballon d’Or winner from City would obviously be great business but them appeasing to fans and trying to show the world how big their dick is. Just classic Madrid bullshit.

Shame he’s not a Barca boy!

Signing two midfielders from a team battling relegation is a risk. Especially because MGW is more of a 10/8 like reijnders but probably better than him. Not sure we need any more of those profiles.

Yeah I agree Reijnders has definitely been better as a 10 than an 8 which is what he was signed for really, a Gundo style player. I still think he’ll come good but for now our 10s are locked up with Foden, Reijdners, Cherki.

Maybe we think we are a little light in the middle and need an extra player there, Bernie has missed something like 8 games in 9 years through injury which is just incredible. It’s all leaning towards him leaving, no one should be surprised if we moved Kovacic too. Nico OR needs to play midfield going forward but is great cover at LB while Josko is out.

Next season could be like this with players leaving

6’s- Rodri/Nico G
8’s- Nico OR
10’s- Cherki/Foden/Reijnders

Anderson and Tonali could both fit in here well. Not sure what Rico Lewis future is, I’ve always hoped he stays and gets minutes in the middle.

I disagree. Both Anderson and Tonali specifically always give a hard time to Arsenal. And a midfield of Anderson-Tonali, O'Riley-Foden and Cherki-Reijnders is amazing and has the depth.
We need a couple of top class players this summer to send the message we aren’t just about youngsters! I know Anderson is only 22/23 but add a Tonali level signing and it shows the likes of Haaland we aren’t still serious about trying to reach the level when he first signed
Anderson and Tonali are a serious level players. Someone like Vitinha is just a little bit better but would cost like two of them combined.

Mate, i`d be ECTSTATIC with Tonali and Anderson! Genuinely think that we could get both as well with Newcastle wanting Trafford? Deals to be done there and i`m sure i read that both owners get on as well?

Why Wharton and Neves and not the more linked Anderson and possibly Tonali
Because Nico G’s weaknesses are his on ball abilities, Anderson is great but he also isn’t a creator, Tonali is the weakest out of all of them. If you had Nico G Anderson Tonali you’ll win duels but we will struggle to create anything. We need a supreme technical controller. Nico G is like a Rice in a way. Just look at their stats and how they play.
