Mary Rand - once our Golden Girl - RIP

Oh that is very sad.

Before I can remember, but Mary's name is iconic as one of Britain’s pioneering female athletes, and of course, her legendary gold medal in Tokyo, along with Ann Packer, mother of Ian and David Brightwell.

R. I. P. Mary.

Mary Rand - once our Golden Girl - RIP

Just reading her obituary. It was such a big event in 1964 because we had never had a female track and field gold medalist.

Of course, she wasn’t the only one that year with Ann Packer winning one too, the mother of our very own Ian Brightwell. She is 84 herself now!

Mary Rand was an inspiration to thousands of women in sport. A great champion and trail blazer. I was smitten in 1964 when she won olympic gold. She had the choice of me or Mick Jagger. Surprisingly, I came a distant second.
Just a great hero of mine together with Anne Packer.
A woman of spirit who was expelled from school for bunking off to Paris with her boyfriend.
RIP Mary, you were just great.

Oh babyyyy! Used to love listening to Stannage back in the day. Proper wind up merchant. His show with our very own James H was a cracking listen. Hes now gone to the big Steely Dan concert in the sky. RIP James.
Sad to hear about James, star of the Jasper Carrott sketch of course ! As you alluded, he was a big Dan fan, lIke me, and I vividly recall him playing things like King Of The World during half time when he did the hosting at Maine Rd. Now all we get is non stop Oasis !

Nick Pope, former UFO guy to the government, and regular on ancient aliens and the like. Interesting chap, sadly passed away from cancer at 60.

Only just found this out. Whatever issues he may have been rumoured to have, didn't deflect upon the music influences he had at the start of Hip Hop.

RIP to one of the Forefathers of HIP HOP, not rap.
