I just read a quote in the last five minutes (about a JD Vance visit to the Hungarian elections), and it asked the question - does the media now inform, or influence?
We have allowed political parties, working in conjunction with what are effectively their own media channels, to build more and more resentment and switch the blame to the things they don't like.
Those parties receive large donations from oil and gas - the media channels they are working with are owned by investment companies who invest in oil and gas. They speak endlessly about how renewables don't work when the wind doesn't blow or the sun doesn't shine because they want to keep their investments successful, and they speak about how much you are paying to subsidise those renewables. Now, they want to dig, dig, dig, because they want to protect their investment in oil and gas despite knowing that it will not necessarily impact on price, and knowing that rejecting renewables ties us to the despots who are manipulating the markets.
They demonise Zack Polanski just as they did Jeremy Corbyn because both speak of inequality - public services have been eroded because political parties who receive substantial donations from extreme wealth refuse to tackle the extremely low tax rates paid by the uber rich. It is no surprise that the owners of GB News and The Daily Mail are both non-dom, complex trust owner types. Get them speaking about the average tax rates of the billionaire boys and you'll have a different type of resentment building up - I saw an 11% figure recently compared to 33% for a nurse. I am a small business owner myself and declare every, single penny of my income from home and abroad because it is right that I pay the correct amount of tax to help the nation's services.
As for immigration, if we keep bombing the globe, and building its inequality, people will move to find safety and prosperity elsewhere - it has been this way since the neolithic age. Our birth rate is now 1.4 - for a myriad of reasons - so we need immigration, lots of it, or we will not be able to fill our pension pot or our vacancies, AI notwithstanding.
Anyway, back to the 115 - any news other than Tolmie's post?
