Running thread

Been making good progress (in my eyes at least). This morning I just completed my first 5km without stopping/walking.

I got round in about 34 mins but I needed a good sit down after to get my breath back. I'll give it another try on Monday, weather permitting.

I can't say I enjoyed it while I was running but I did feel good after I had finished if that makes any sense. Maybe when it gets a bit easier it will become more enjoyable during the run.
That's great effort mate imo don't knock it

Just signed up for the Great Manchester Run 10k. I usually do the half marathon but I tore my Achilles tendon in August so its been a slow recovery since then. Back to running now - the most I've done in a single run so far is 6.5k so hopefully I'll be OK by then though I suspect I won't be posting a PB!

Exactly, once you can go out and it’s feels much easier and more comfortable that is when the enjoyment really kicks in. For me being able to run 10k comfortably is a real game changer.

Also, just to add it’s not all about times, running at a low heart rate (so easy pace) is very beneficial and makes running more enjoyable especially when you first start.

Brilliant news - keep chipping away at it. It gets easier and more enjoyable as you start to get fitter. Its not an overnight thing.
Try to look at it as stage one of a multi stage journey. This stage is the hard part but it seems like you have already begun to feel some benefit even though it is post run

With no game today I went and tried Alderley Edge parkrun. Mainly trail paths so a lot of looking down to see where you’re going. The running on uneven ground makes me slower.

Time was 32.31 today.

Have a look on the Youribe channel ‘running with Ash’ I do quite a few of his strength workouts and he does cover exercises for shins, foot, ankles etc. Videos range from 10-30 mins, exercises not over complicated and they do really help.h
Some great vids on YT re 'The Horse Stance' ....a really really simple exercise which strengthens every single muscle of the lower body ,so great for shins ankles feet etc.

The aim is to keep the position ( basically a squat) for two mins or more....I generally manage a min and a half before giving up,but they say practice makes perfect...... definitely feel the benefit almost instantly ( after pain resides ) and the increase in power ,gait ,confidence when walking/ running thereafter makes this simple exercise, imo, one of the most important workouts I've ever done in my life, and as someone who still plays footy and Tennis into my left 50s,the benefits cannot be understated.

Also,id recommend Raw Organic Coconut oil for any bodily pain/ inflammation.....100% organic, not the cheap supermarket versions......this incredible natural substance melts through the epedermis and is naturally drawn towards inflamed cells and heals them. An absolutely brilliant natural substance which no doctor or NHS professional will ever suggest.....

And while we're on the subject of Pain relief...raw organic root Ginger .chopped and sliced...in a tea format ..takes away about 80% of my post footy body pains .such a simple cheap remedy for pain, and cheap as chips too.again I avoid supermarket ginger sold in packets... And head for the Asian store and bring a load back with me. Pound for pound one of the most valuable purchases I make.

Do you mean torso stance or horse stance? Either way, I wouldn't suggest that they're useful for the vast majority of runners unless it's someone with specific postural / coordination problems. There are way, way better drills that we can all be doing and that actually work.

The epidermis is a barrier - no coconut oil is 'melting through' it and it certainly isn't targeting inflamed cells.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I suggest you seriously review wherever you're getting your information from.

I genuinely mean you no ill will, but I must admit that I get very frustrated when I see claims with no scientific validity being spread around - these things can be harmful if they lead to people avoiding real interventions that actually help them.

Raw organic Coconut oil is one of the most powerful substances on the planet pal.
Studied it for over ten years,
Its helped me in so many ways,I couldn't list them.
Please don't talk down to me, I know what I'm talking about.

Went to Budapest last weekend, went for a walk round Margaret Island which is a public park situated in the middle of the river Danube. They’ve created a runners paradise there with a 5km loop with the surface being what you would find on an athletics track. I bet you could smash some PBs on that. Was perfectly flat so no inclines could get you.
