Burnley (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Flappers and neg heads. Stop.

It isnt going to go down to goal difference.

3 points away in a title race with only a handful of games to go. Buzzing.

On what basis does it feel like a bad result? We've just gone top for the first time in over 200 days when even a month ago nobody gave us a prayer of catching Arsenal.

Meanwhile they've been in poor form for a couple of months at least, scraping wins when they have won, lost the Carabau to us, out of the FAC to a Championship side, lost at home to Bournemouth then lost again to us - 4 games in which they had the chance to show the world they are the best team and they end up out of two competitions and now lose top spot with 5 games left.

If you're an Arsenal fan this will feel like a vey bad result. Job done.
I wouldn’t bother engaging them mate. It’s the same every season.
We honestly have the very very worst set of entitled, shit, online fanbase in the league. Our fan base on the internet is an actual disgrace.

Not the best performance but got the job done. Rest a few v Saints and go again v Toffees.

Hope the 50 year anniversary of Southampton winning the Cup isn't a bad omen. Funny how history repeats itself sometimes.

We should have won by three or four tonight and that's how Pep set us up. A missed opportunity, he expects Arsenal to win their games, and wanted goal difference to be in our favour.

We were sluggish and wasteful unfortunately.

Job done points wise but it's going to be difficult with the comparative remaining games to boost our goal difference more than theirs. I personally think the league will be won on points still and that won't ultimately matter.

Onto the next game.
We have goals in us at home. Palace and Brentford will be key to it. The good thing is we will know exactly what we need to do when we go to Everton.

4 games prior to this, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. I'd say they can have a not so good performance and win!
Agreed and when you look at the table it puts it in perpective.

The pressure back on the Arse, especially as everyone in the media think it's a given they win all their games now.

Yeah, that’s the mindset before the game. But when reflecting, we should have scored a few more. It’s a missed opportunity. Peps behaviour on the sideline tells you everything.
I always think it's dumb to talk about these matches as missed opportunities. You can play 5 times better and still not score, you can play worse and win 3-0, it's how the game works. They either go in or they don't, it is what it is.

They knew they were going down do played for pride today. They can be dangerous. Anyway, a shit performance bit 3 points and showed them we need to be on it for all our remaining fixtures. Hopefully they got the message.
Hopefully, Pep gets the message. You have to keep it simple. Nouri for O'Reilly if he needs a breather. Kova for Bernardo if he does. Nico for Rodri ( this is q no brainer). Ake for Guehi,
The point is you don't see teams just rolling over even if staying up is virtually impossible, yet that's what many on here expected them to do.
I didn't expect them to roll over. I expected us to play better. I think the poor selection played a part in our malaise, and that's on Pep. And some lackustre performances from individual players did too.

Either way, it felt like a lost opportunity. Hopefully it wasn't.

I think we'll need Arsenal to drop points now - Come On, you Geordies!

It might be a run-in where each team gains more positive vibes from what happens to the other, rather than what they do themselves?

I'll tell you what - I'm absolutely flat after tonight, but considering our Mickey Mouse defending for the best part of this season, it's fantastic to be in this position so late on, isn't it?

Noocastle and West Ham to get results against them…pretty please

Surprised Nico didn’t start and NOR at left back, apart from Rayan we lacked creativity

We would have been more of a threat down the left I think, but Pep was going for goals tonight and wanted more of an attacking threat in the middle of the pitch.

Frustrating game but we won which is the main thing. On another day with those chances we would have scored four but Burnley could claim that they would have taken chances too. I did want Marmoush on for the last 10 minutes as he in a good finisher and might have managed to steer the ball past the multiple bodies in the box.
Hopefully Arsenal drop some points before we play again.

Know we won but that's a disgrace of a performance in front of goal. XG of 3.7. Arsenal have a couple of games where they could fill their boots. Huge chance missed tonight. Sorry, I know this will rile some up and all that, but most pissed off I have been with a win in ages.
Arsenal have won one in six but seemingly they will win all their remaining games?

Before the game, we were 1 behind on GD.
This game looked like the best opportunity to score a few and get a bit of a lead on arsenal.
If (and yes it's a big if) both teams win every game to the end of the season, I think arsenal win it now on GD.

My thoughts as well unfortunately.
