Burnley (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

I was in the away end tonight with a good view of the warmup. The finishing drills were laughable, with players and coaches actually laughing at each others misses. It was commented on by a few of us stood watching that we hoped they would buck their ideas up. They didn’t.

Just back from the game - have a mate who's a Burnley fan so was sat in enemy territory behind the goal Erling potted our goal in.

A laboured performance tbh and Sunday clearly took a lot out of them, which is why I felt Pep maybe should've gone to his bench a bit more. Other thought was Gonzalez blatantly shouldve started that game and gave us more shape/structure when he came on. Whenever we line up without a genuine hold in the formation we always look disjointed.

Thought Cherki again excellent and bar a late corner we never looked like conceding though 1-0 is always precarious. Foden and Marmoush sat on their arses for 90 mins disappointed me a bit, and Semenyo was poor again I thought and may need a rest as he looks like he's dragging a fridge behind him atm. On another night Erling scores a hat-trick, and if Nico had taken than chance inside the final 5 mins it would've been better for my ticker.

Job done but not a game that will live long in the memory. Hoping Pep starts Gonzalez as the hold in our formation at Wembley.

Pep doesn’t trust the bench players. The simple solution tonight would have been Gonzalez in for Rodri. One change,
One positional change. He complicated it. I don’t think he likes playing Gonzalez particualrly so tries to find another solution,

Problem is that relying on the same players week in week out can lead to injuries and forced changes.

They'll beat Newcastle who are in freefall.
They'll beat Fulham who are on the beach.
They'll put 5 or 6 past Burnley like we should have imo.

Our hopes lie with West Ham and Palace (on the beach).

I was fully behind the idea of an Arsenal collapse before Sunday, but that was their best performance in months and it's down to them having Eze, Odegaard, and Havertz back in the team. Those three are going to create and score lots of goals in these last five games and we really needed to rack the goals up tonight to give ourselves a chance on the GD+ front. We've got to hope and pray that West Ham can nick something for us, otherwise we'll lose on GD+.
You're losing it mate, you're bottling it far more than anyone connected with Arsenal.

City at Wembley for a chance of a trophy they're desperate for - lost, comfortable win for City. No goals.

Southampton, Championship side in the FAC, chance to show they're still up for the treble after we killed their quad hopes - lost, 1 goal.

Bournemouth, home, a team who haven't who haven't won as many matches as Newcastle - lost, 1 goal.

City at the Etihad, yet another chance to show they're still the team to beat - lost, one gifted goal.

Sporting - 1 goal over two matches against a very average side in the CL.

Previous matches - needed 2 90th minute + goals to beat Everton against the run of play.
Scraped past Mansfield by the odd goal.
Scraped past Brighton after scoring an early goal.
Scraped past Chelsea by the odd goal after Chelsea going down to 10 men after about 20 mins.
Blew a 2 goal lead v Wolves

This is not a team that looks anything remotely close to banging in lots of goals against anybody.
They have two tough CL ties against Atletico in between, which they'll be desperate to win because it might be their only chance of winning anything.
Their confidence will be on the floor after we caught and passed them and beat them at Wembley and again on Sunday after leading the table for over 6 months.

And on top of that tonight should prove one thing to you - that you can NEVER predict how a match is going to go. Just leave the bottling to them. It's all they're good at.

And by the way, WE put 5 past Burnley at home but you need to get past this idea that teams should score a certain amount of goals past certain teams, why you lot never learn I really don't know but it doesn't work like that, never has, never will.

Yep, they only scored 2 at Burnley.
And let 2 in at Wolves after leading 2-0, only just beat Chelsea by 1 goal despite paying against 10 men for over an hour, Mansfield, Brighton, Everton until the 97th minute, Sporting over 2 legs, all just won by one goal.

When are you clowns going to understand that the opposition you play doesn't define the number of goals you're going to score?

We won job done...now we have to match or better the Gooners over the next 5 games. I'm glad we have a break with the FA Cup this weekend, hopefully the Gooners will fuck up against Newcastle!!

Dream scenario. Hopefully pigmol even things up and they send off that thug Gabriel and Newcastle thrash them.

Every chance that only winning 1-0 is gonna bite us on the arse come the end of the season

A huge opportunity missed tonight by our wastefulness
I always think of this stuff and think that it could lose us the title, but also look at it that it could win us the title.

Weird world.

James Milner

Well, job done today. That's the main thing. But our 2nd half was woeful. Which I suppose is expected off an emotional victory. Still, I can't help but think an opportunity to bag at least two more goals has been lost. And let's not kid ourselves - we are going to be counting goals all the way to the end unless Tarquins slip up. Absolutely possible. Newcastle need to find it.

Glad we won and got the 3 points. Yes we should have scored more goals but at the same time this could have been a massive banana peel slip

They've fallen off a cliff the last few weeks though. Howe can set up a team to spoil games though so hopefully he does it on Saturday and that big nosed speed merchant Gordon has a blinder on the break and scores a hat trick.
The CL matches have done for them, they've not been used to playing so many matches. Now they're out they might rally a bit. They've actually won one more game than Bournemouth and they're not a team to roll over.

Wasn't great when he came on though, gave the ball away, they broke and it could have cost us.

Right my take on tonight.
3pts is obviously the most important thing so lets not muddy the waters here. Just praying the lack of goals scored don't come back to haunt us. I actually think the game at Everton will suit us a lot more.
However that performance was one to forget, To passive, not clinical enough and rather boring if I am being honest.
Can I just say that Burnley are another 6 behind the ball job with no intention of even trying to play football so I am personally glad they have been fucked off to the championship. Horrible fucking club, anti football. At least Wolves, Leeds, Forest etc try to play football.
