North Stand expansion | Trial Event - Wed 20th May (p110)

What will the new capacity be next season? Over 60,000 is frequently mentioned. Formally, I think it will be 61,958, but we are incurring huge losses at the front of the top tier of the South Stand due to areas being taped off. That looks like overkill to me. We could get close to 61,958 if we review that. There's some discrepancy between the planning app. which talks of 7,910 seats, and City's current comms. which refer to 7,000 plus. Perhaps the difference is the sky bar at the back of the new stand? That looks like it might hold around 800 seats? The range for the max. attendance is between 60,000-61,958. The current max attendance this season is around 52,600 but that includes some loss of seating due to the construction which we will recover. If you start with 52,600 and add 7,910, the losses from the back of the current North Stand, which we will recover, and if we open the front rows of the South Stand top tier you can get close to 61,958.

At most games, the Etihad is quiet like most Premier League stadiums, but for some matches e.g., Arsenal it has been very good, and it's about to get better. From a distance, the new stand looks great, and just like the models presented when there were arguments about a 2 or 3 tier extension.

Eh?

I would like to check the view from the top corner seats. I'd also be interested to know how big the concourse is. I think it's likely to be large, because the stand entrances are set low in the stand.

To give an idea of the size of the concourses:

City Hall is 925m2, City Square 2778m2, Club Level (lower entrance to expansion) 1807m2, Upper Concourse 1767m2.

As a comparison the North Stand concourse is 1256m2, with the central additional concourse a further 595m2.
The side stands have 1583m2.

Ultimately they're big, although a bit of a squeeze in the lower with the hospitality of City Hall in the middle - but two large open areas either side of the stand.

Does anyone know how to pay the £5?

The email link doesn't work! just gives me an overview of the next 3 games I can get tickets for (which I already have)
I haven't tried yet. The article says, "Tickets go on sale at 2pm tomorrow (Friday 1st May) for Season Ticket Members and Seasonal Hospitality Members, priced at £5 for adults and £3 for Under 18s."

Have to try later.

He seems to think that City restrict the front rows when City fans are in that tier which is obviously not correct its just when away fans have it.

He does have an overall point on the capacity, it was something I mentioned early on, there are various increased capacities floating about, i think we are very close to 60k and not the 62k that's often mentioned.

Am I seeing this right? They are expecting 3500+ people to rock up to some kind of fuckiing City Square style cheesefest with nothing to see? That can't be right.
We used to do open training sessions in the summer, which got a lot of people attending. Obviously different, but will we actually get 3,500 attending this?

Feels quite last minute all this.

Ultimately yes. But in the interests of seeing the stand, albeit restricted, and assisting in getting it open for the Villa game they're probably hoping people will still take that opportunity. It would have made more sense to screen the Bournemouth game but there are wider logistics that probably made that a non-starter.

Everton hosted an academy match for their test event - but that was 10,000 iirc. It's so late in the season the best we could do is have an academy friendly against each other!

I cannot for the life of me see that many people being up for a pointless cheesathon in the evening at the business end of the season. Why aren't they doing the YOuth Cup final or a womans game ?

The current working capacity of the Etihad is 52,600. I would like to know what the working capacity of the 'new' ground will be.

Capacity was lost due to them removing the pitch side seats and the back row or two of the north stand while they redeveloped. No south stand upper seats are covered apart from for cup games when away fans are in there.

'As a benefit of your Season Ticket Membership, we are giving you exclusive first access to purchase your ticket on Friday 1 May at 2pm.'

that serves me right for not reading the fineprint!

Got giddy after getting cup final tickets

If they on;y sell 1000 tickets does that mean that the stand doesn't open for the Villa game? This whole things sounds like incredibly bad planning to me. As above, sure there's a women or academy game?

I agree. A youth cup final to properly test it out.

I don’t think this testing has been communicated very well (if I didn’t look on here I probably wouldn’t know) and it feels very rushed and last minute.

Hopefully it goes great, but this phase seems a bit rushed.

It will need to be 3,500 to pass the safety checks to enable it to operate at full capacity for the final game. It's more a rushed job than bad planning. They didn't get it ready in time to use a women's or academy game as a test event - their games finish before the 20th May.
