I've been a staunch advocate of VAR and I still haven't changed my mind. This is isn't the way I've have done VAR.
But the digital data is the digital data.
What's wrong is the reinterpretation of what they see, week on week of the same/ similar actions or offence.
The difference between rugby and football is that the refs in the booth in rugby confirm what has happened and ASSIST the referee in the decision, not ask him to make his mind up on it (can't recall a ref being asked to review anything, but it may have happened! So, it's rare.). Was it a deliberate handball that led to a goal/ denying a goal? Yes. Done. There's a difference between 'making yourself "bigger" ' and a natural position. Everybody with a brain knows this.
Did the player make a deliberate aggressive action towards the opponent with his head? Yes? Done.
As long as the action is done DELIBERATELY I ain't got a problem with the decision.
Can't have one ref seeing things differently than another, so leave it to the booth to follow the guideline, NOT have a think about it!!
