Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

A decent first half in which we controlled the play but only Doku was capable of keeping a shot down, Cherki and Semenyo should have done better with their attempts. The rest of the time we appeared to be trying to walk the ball in the net or just walk through 8 or 9 of their players. It was all a bit slow and laboured and we didn't home our advantage after Doku scored.

The second half followed on in a similar fashion until Guehi's farcically under hit back pass. After that for some unfathomable reason we capitulated and lost our heads completely and there was very little leadership on the pitch. Our second and third goals goals came from a decent bit of play, nice to know we can move forward quickly and get up the pitch without a dozen passes to the side and a dozen more back.

Doku's third was stunning, perhaps he can teach the rest how to shoot and curl a shot in from distance rather than endless passes across the box. It was even more impressive when you consider he was lucky not to have a broken ankle too. That 'tackle' was a red and if it had been done on a player wearing a red shirt at one of their grounds that is the colour that would have been shown.

Anyway, well done City for pulling it back to get a point but it's a disappointing result especially after the first half and having dragged ourselves into a title race.
There were signs before that goal. They should have scored when clean through but their player fucked it up.

They could easily have scored 5 tonight which should never be the case when we are playing a team of cloggers like them.

I don’t get why you all think all London clubs hate each other.

As someone who lives reasonably close by and knows a lot of fans of London clubs believe me when I said palace couldn’t not care less about Arsenal (palace aren’t even based in London).

I kept reading about Fulham being a derby for Arsenal. Again that wasn’t a derby.

Arsenals derby is Tottenham and they have a rivalry with Chelsea. The other London sides don’t really have any sort of rivalry with Arsenal tbh

It’s at home. It’s the farewell to the fans. No team likes bowing out for the season on a defeat and having to watch a team lift the league title. They are professional athletes ffs.

Strange game all-round.

All over them first half with little to show bar the doku strike. Thought if we'd played more directly or in a higher gear we'd have done very well as the goals were there for us.

Atmosphere a bit weird too, couldn't work out if it was the acoustics of the stadium or what.

Hope the blue who was receiving medical treatment for some time in the stands is okay too, unsure what took place there.

Doku great, the rest not so much and not in it. New team, it takes time. But we're losing Bernardo and Stones in the summer, mentality wise a lot of winners moving on. Need the new players to step into those shoes now.

Guehi's action created another phase of play.

How many dozens of times have we seen the flag not go up when it appears clearly offsides? Because the linesmen have been instructed as such.

Sure - I guess the really limp takeaway could be "waaah if the flag had gone up immediately we wouldn't have made the error there that resulted in the 100% within the rules of the game goal."

Kinda soft innit?
Offside should stop the game, how can you have another phase of play after the game should have been stopped? Not one Everton player complained when the flag went up so nobody expected it to be given, that alone should tell you something.

The point is he was offside BEFORE that phase of play. I'll say it again, we see goals disallowed by the dozen every single week for the same thing, because a player was offside "earlier in the move".
Really hard to argue against someone who has their mind made up and can't admit if this exact call on the other foot us scoring the goal --- there wouldn't be a single question.

So many mistakes. Players looked like they were playing on ice. Passes straight out of touch, miss controls, mix up at the back leading to them missing a sitter.
It was inevitable that these misstakes would eventualy bite us on the ass. That back pass wad one of the worst Ive ever seen, and it got worse from there. Hate to say it, but Arse centre backs dont do shit like that.
We were loose with the ball tonight. However, to say Arsenal centre backs don't do shit like that is a bit disingenuous. Their centre backs literally messed up at the Emirates three weeks ago, losing to Bournemouth 1-2 by constantly passing back to Raya (38 times) and eventually gifting the ball to Alex Scott who scored the winning goal for Bournemouth. Shit happens - it doesn't only happen to our team.

Not sure you needed to stick your oar in, and I prefer to call the miserable bastards out, thank you.
I stuck my oar in because I don’t like to see people being personally attacked on a forum for giving their opinion. I don’t agree with some of their takes but that doesn’t give me the right to insult him.

If you honestly can’t help but abuse people you disagree with then I’d suggest you are actually the miserable bastard

But you said NOTHING HAS CHANGED!?!

Funny how all the bookies and all the exchanges (and all the adults) disagree with you.

I'll put it another way then - so you only have to count to 6, not 9 - if Arsenal draw with West Ham, it won't now be in our hands. Had we won tonight, it could have been, were we to beat Brentford.

And you call me a tit? Jeez, it's hardly quantum physics.
If Arsenal draw with West Ham and we win our game in hand, and we match each other's results in the last 2 matches, the only reason it's in their hands is goal difference.

If he doesn’t make a mistake you’d be gutted to make at 5 a side tonight, we don’t collapse.

These things don’t happen in a vacuum.

Guehi cost us the title. He’s been good, true.

But tonight with his failure to complete a 6 yard pass to the keeper, he cost us the title.
Fuck off Yaya.

Guehi has been fucking brilliant.

One slip during an offside procedure didnt cost us the title.

In fact, I hope Marc doesn't see your nonsence.

I think we need to see the very successful 4321 (433) formation more often, 424 doesn't need to be spammed all the time (but I don't blame Pep for using it if it wins games).

Get both Doku and Cherki as wingers who go wide and inside at will.

We need to use the fullbacks more (Nunes is slightly neutered as a 3rd CB).

Get a 3rd midfielder like Foden/Reijnders (maybe Kova) deeper and central to allow the fullbacks that freedom.

I'm not sure playing Semenyo every time is the key.

Lots of spoilt cunts, sadly.

Turn on the players ridiculously quickly.

there’s a very good chance we come away with at least 2nd, and two domestic cups in the bag, during our 2nd rebuild season.

Let’s have a bit of perspective, this will be a celebrated season in future when people look back. We’ve won something!
Well said mate.
A fantastic post amongst the usual sea of shite.

It’s at home. It’s the farewell to the fans. No team likes bowing out for the season on a defeat and having to watch a team lift the league title. They are professional athletes ffs.
It’s not a fair well to the fans. They will be playing the biggest game of their season 4 days later.

Glasner will have the reserves out and rightly so. Palace will not give a shit if they win, lose or draw. It will be all about the final

I'd also like to know how much fucking water Everton dumped on that pitch tonight. Because it was only our lads slipping and the ball not travelling properly. Guehi knocked that back through a puddle.

Offside should stop the game, how can you have another phase of play after the game should have been stopped? Not one Everton player complained when the flag went up so nobody expected it to be given, that alone should tell you something.
Mate, read the laws of the game. He wasn’t offside.

Yes. The defender was Tyrone Mings. I thought it was unfair on him at the time
And didn't they change the rules a week later? If we gain an advantage it gets changed, if we get screwed they'll double down on the rules to highlight how right they were. Raheem Sterling's push at Stoke never to be seen again comes to mind.
