Local Elections | Thu 7 May 26

I agree on Mahmood. For what it’s worth, my elderly mother is a true blue Tory and the only decent word she has for Labour is for Mahmood.

I was in a state of shock for a good five minutes.
You might want to listen to your dear mother once in a while.

So that's all you're worried about? Fucking hell.

So they can be the most corrupt, useless representatives, like some of those in Oldham for example, but as long as they haven't taken a penny from Israel then they're OK. I think you've nailed your colours firmly to the mast there.
Too right i have nailed my mast, i do not want a foreign country, telling me what i can say, what i can do, and where i can go, even what i am allowed to believe in. I think it is great that these conservative nazi`s have got in, we now have 2 years to assess them, and while it is usual for the sitting party to lose seats when in power,it should be noticed that Starmer is the most hated PM since Thatcher, and this is not the biggest shock turnout, Brexit was, that man Farage lied it that as well, `we will stop immigation` Heard yesterday how a reform council saved 5 million by using buses for schools instead of taxis, sounds great, you are good with finances, how does taking 5 million out of a local economy affect a local economy, reform are about taking from the poor and giving to the rich, while blaming immigration for it.
There is a recession coming, Farage cutting back on all benefits, which will include pensioners, is going to be really interesting, as in america they have estimated 1/3 of the population will lose their jobs, the NHS waiting list that was 5 million before COVID is now 7,2 million, Farage is going to make that zero, by getting rid of queues and giving coupons, sounds like abolishing the NHS to me and replacing it with insurance companies, it is going to be great fun, but i still do not want a foreign country telling me what i can do in my country.

Couldn’t agree more and I’m on record on this forum saying Mahmood is the best Home Secretary for a generation.
She's not responsible for those policies, she's just adding a bit more "hostile environment".

The electorate voting for Reform , and by extension Farage, have demonstrated that the fucking imbeciles voting for this collection of frauds, especially the pathetic Tory defectors, and grifters have learned nothing from the total braindeads in the US , voting for Trump.

Farage is Trump lite and is hell bent on ruining the integrity of the UK to satisfy his greed and total dishonesty as a human being.
I think integrity has been long gone out of British politics.

What country ever did this to you?

Out of interest, did you vote in your local council elections based on something happening in a foreign country?

No foreign country has ever told us what we can or cannot do in our own country ,

The silence from much of our media is appalling.
If this were Angela Rayner, they would be utterly relentless in their pursuit.

I think the more insidious thing is the fact it wasn't mentioned two weeks before the locals, but once the elections were done... suddenly brought up to prove the media are in some way doing their job. Compare and contrast to Polanski who despite being unnowmed, anti racist and an advocate for peace and community cohesion... had EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE smear thrown at him, everyday for 2 weeks solid. Almost as if "its a big club and he ain't in it"

I think that's fair but also to provide a factual interjection, if the hotels are what people have a problem with, they started being used under the Tories and Labour have nearly halved the numbers in hotels since they came to power from 56k at it's peak to about 30k today, and that's despite increasing the refusal rate of asylum claims (before the usual argument starts of falsely claiming it's because they just started accepting every claim).

In fact, they're on track to have no asylum claimants in hotels by the end of the Parliament in 2029.

Small boat crossing are also down by a third, actually by boat volume it's more than halved (the boats are just carrying more people as they get more desperate).

Legal migration routes, Visa's etc. are also down 80% and it looks like we could be in net negative migration territory as soon as this year.

So if all this is such a concern, I'm happy to hear the rational arguments of others, but I don't quite understand why people are voting out the party who actually seem to be fixing the thing people are saying is such a problem. Labour aren't my cup of tea but from my perspective they seem to be doing exactly what Reform voters are asking. Maybe somebody can educate me.
Also, the numbers would be even better if the Tories hadn't basically just given up on processing claims in the run-up to the 2024 General Election which in turn increased the backlog.

I don't think Reform could've done any better than Labour so far on this. There's also an argument that Reform don't want it fully resolved during Labour's term in office because if the boats were to fully stop and the numbers in hotels dropped to zero then that's Reform's main policy out of the window. In any case, as the GE draw ever closer Reform are going to need a hell of a lot more policies than just immigration to sell to the public.

I dunno. Reading some of the braindead “wE wAnT OuR CulTuRe BaCk” crowd on here, that may be all they need.

I have read this morning that two Reform candidates who were actually voted for had died a year ago and another was an AI creation. That's just hard to believe but then I read another who wants to fill pot holes with melted members of the Nigerian community and nothing will surprise me.

I think these election results will end up teaching us 5 things:

1. Two party politics is dead. If one of the big two doesn't relaunch with electoral reform its primary offer then they are dead.

2. Never underestimate peoples propensity to vote against their own interests. Im sure Reform will talk (but ultimately fail) to "stop the boats" but when the child of a duped working class voter breaks its leg and it costs 8 grand. Nigel pitch won't seem quite so honest.

3. The system can live with ANY political party, with the exception of a Socialist party. That IS NOT ALLOWED. Corbyn was crushed for it, even threatened with a Military coup, out in the open in a newspaper. And Polanski has just had 2 weeks of the same playbook. To the point of being patronised and lectured about antisemitism by Trevor Philips of the "community with in a community" opinion. This attack on his history, family, ethnicity, looks and beliefs went on, full tilt, bybthe usual suspects in the same week 2 people were arrested for antisemitic threats to him and a prominent newspaper published an antisemitic cartoon about him.

4. The United Kingdom won't last the decade.

5. Starmer is SO important to the owners and the Genocide justifyers as the person who will stand in the way of justice, financial reform and freedom... he will need to be dragged out of number 10 by his nose. Do you really think they want a man of competence and independent thought in there like Andy Burnham? Nope, Starmer is their man, which is why the bulllshhiting fraud is there in the first place.
I am very interested in some context to point 4.
Is it due to Scotland Wales voting in the Nationalist parties of both nations?

Both. I suspect that is a tide that now can not be stemmed. The working classes have been failed and as a result the punishment will be a ripping apart of the union. Another catastrophic failure of "sensible centrist politics"
