The Squad planning thread

The articles I've seen seem to be indicating that's the price they want no matter what league they are in. It could be an indicator that West ham are going to be in major financial trouble if they go down.

Surely players still have relegation clauses in their contracts?

Obviously, only my personal opinion, but I think we will have 5 centre halfs.

Age order; Ruben, Mark, Josko, Kusa and Ries. We can expect injuries.

I think Ruben will be protected a little as he gets older and his leg over regularly. Ries will be given 12 / 18 months to bed in the PL. That leaves the other 3. I think Kusa doubles at right back if no one else comes in and Josko at left back ( if Nico makes the switch to CM). It gives us flexibility and can play 3 CH's when needed.

Of course it depends on who if anyone comes in, but as Ruben steps out of the spotlight, Vitor gets more regular game time. I feel sorry for the younger guys like Bah,Max, Mfuni, Simpson P and those behind them like Branthwaite and Noble, but they will have good careers like Harwood Bellis and others.

So everyone fit and available if Pep is still here and the system stays the same, who starts across the back line?

I would have thought Nunes Ruben Josko and Nico if no fullbacks are brought in, but I think he will rotate and swap. I think he will stay to the end of his contract, as he always does, and goes for everything, again!

I think he will most likely bring in a RB, as whilst Nunes has done well, he isn't he future ( and sometimes even the present) and it will allow RAN to attack if he plays 3 centre halfs, especially if some can step into midfield. It's gonna be really interesting.

I think Josko goes to LB personally with Guehi LCB and Nico into midfield? Then its the battle for Dias against Khusanov.

Depends on the game and opponent. There needs to be much more rotation than there has been, even during games, and a goal should be having all four main players compatible with each other.

We need to be particularly wary about Gvardiol’s contract, however. It expires in 2028, at which point he’ll still be only 26 and highly attractive to Spanish predators.

I think the new deal is all agreed mate and will be announced by the end of the season.

This is where clauses can become complicated , the player might have a clause saying if a club makes a certain bid amount he is allowed to speak to another club. The problem is whilst he is currently under contract his club has no obligation to accept the fee offered. This has happened in several cases could be wrong I think it might have been Suarez at Liverpool and MGW at Forest.

When and if everyone is fit, teams will not know what to expect from our lineups and I secretly think he is chuffed how this season has gone because he has been building partnerships for next season. I agree about Mark. He played on the right with Nathan on the left and looked uncomfortable. Rumours again today about Cambiaso but I don't see him giving up on RAN yet, who has his injury issues and AFCOM responsibilities.

Incidentally, I haven't got a clue what midfield looks like next season.

Agree about the midfield, but feel it needs strengthening a bit. Some type of RB cover possibly as well.

I'm just watching "Together: 4in a row 2024", found it on my stick. Really interesting beginning, Gundo, Mahrez left, rumours of Walker too. The replacement players of Gvardiol, Kovacic, Nunez and Doku. Tziki's last proper round I think, he's on talking about squad planning. Think about how long it's been for Nunez and Doku to be accepted and live up to their potential. Doku still gets stick from a guy who sits near me despite his current form. For RAN, Marmoush and others recently acquired, sometimes it just requires the right formation, a run of games, a bit of self confidence as well as skills.

Midfield next season will almost definitely have Rodri and probably Kovacic, too. Losing Silva will be a huge loss for Guardiola, so I reckon he'll desperately want to retain and lean on both of them. So, the question becomes whether we go all in for someone like Anderson, who is battle-hardened, league ready, and capable of doing their running, or whether we spread the money on a couple of players, seeking better value, not only for 26-27 but for life thereafter.

If I were Guardiola and looking to go out on a high, Anderson, but if I were Viana and thinking further down the line, two players.

Some may say I am bias with this opinion, I think you must go all in on Anderson I have seen him grow so much in the 2 seasons with us. I think this lad could become a generational talent, if you were to spend 80m on him he could possibly be at City between 7-10 years which could save you money instead of gambling on say a couple of 40m players which you might have to replace after 2 or 3 seasons. He is a perfect fit for you and with better coaching and players around him I think he will be sensational. His character is right it's about the team and not about himself and above all he really wants to come to you when possibly other clubs will be trying to offer him more.

An honest appraisal, but do you genuinely believe that 80 million would be enough to prise him from Marinakis' souvlaki-soaked fingers? I suspect not. I fear he would demand considerably more (100 million plus) in the summer auction and protract any negotiations well into August.

Anderson has always played particularly well in the games against us, only lost once in eight meetings, so I'm not necessarily opposed to his signing, but if the price became prohibitive and we could alternatively sign Bouaddi and Smit, then I'd lose no sleep.

Yes I've said on all my posts that I think you get him for 80m as long as the deal is done quickly before the WC . I have a feeling if the deal is not done before WC he might end staying with us until at least Jan as we would need as much time as poss to find his replacement. We have been heavily linked with Hackney from Boro but like all transfers it is sometimes like purchasing a house where you are in a chain of deals.

But why would Marinakis even countenance selling him ahead of the World Cup, an event at which Anderson could shine and see his value soar? Similarly, given how much you squeezed out of Newcastle for Elanga and Tottenham for Johnson, your valuation appears somewhat deflated. Are other Forest supporters resigned to him leaving for that amount?

We've had our fill of club owners stringing us along through summers, so if he is our priority, it could happen early. However, given that the squads will have departed and the World Cup started before the window even opens this summer, perhaps not.
