Eurovision 2026

I never watch that pile of utter shite.

We could put Ed Sheran in with a truly great song and he wouldn’t win.

The rest of Europe just don’t like us, so fuck them.
Wasn't Bulgaria first and Israel 2nd? These are hardly popular countries atm. Im basing this on the news I don't watch the shite personally.

Yep ... Israel were 2nd, 173 points behind Bulgaria.

I said prior to the show happening that we had no chance, and the UK entry would do well not to fall off the bottom of the scoreboard !

Easy to pick up points when you rig the voting system though.

Even funnier when it doesn't get you enough votes

No doubt you are also of the opinion that the EES is solely designed to “bash the Brits”.

The BBC pay between £1.2 & £1.5 mil for that crap. Year after year we are a laughing stock with our entry, and when we do manage something half decent we don’t get any votes. Really is time the money is spent on something else, and it goes pay per view for those who want to watch.
Bet the expenses bill for those they send is pretty high. Or did they stop sending people and just have watch-alongs?

2022 Sam Ryder "Space Man" 2nd 466 pts.

You're an idiot.
Thanks for the compliment, but maybe do some research, before you start throwing insults about.

In the last 20 years, we've had 1 - 2 place finish. Sam Ryder as you rightly say, which was a better song than we usually have, and probably benefited from the UK being in Europes good books for helping Ukraine out at the start of the war.

We've also had 1 - 5th place finish in 2009, apart from those two we've not had a finish over 11th, with the majority of those finishes being lower than 18th of 25 places.

I'm saying there is zero value in spending that amount of licence payers money on something that we rarely get a good result in, whoever we have performing and the show is producing so many poor songs and little entertainment for a nearly 5 hour show.
(Remember we pay the most for this to be staged along with France, Germany, Italy and Spain)

We basically have the piss taken out of us every year with the way the voting goes.

Have a nice day.

How is where we finish relevant to whether the BBC pay for the broadcasting rights?

This is one of their most viewed programmes each year. Why would they not want to keep showing that?

They’ve shown the World Cup each time it comes around and England have had the piss ripped out of them in most tournaments. You want that cancelling too?

There isn't any doubt it's being flushed down the toilet, it isn't what it was and give it a few more years it'll get canned.

  • 2010: 5.59 million
  • 2000: 6.54 million
  • 1998: 9.68 million
  • 1984: 9.8 million
  • 1973: 21.56 million
  • 1968: 20.9 million [1]

I've a theory that the beeb select absolute no hopers to represent the UK, because they don't want the UK to win. That way we don't have to host it. The last time that the UK hosted the event it cost about £25M, with much of the funding coming from the BBC itself.

It doesn't bother me, because I packed in watching it about 10 years ago because of the political voting, and how bloated the whole thing had become.

Now compare that to other events around a similar time of the year on the same year. I suspect you'll see a similar drop in numbers because of the fragmentation of viewers because of more channels and more recently the internet, streaming etc.

The weekly viewing figures of the most popular programs have stayed pretty stable, Eurovision isn't what it was a lot of people aren't bothering even though it's a one off yearly event.

If I'm to believe the AI query I just run. Then the FA Cup figures show the exact same trends in viewership going down as Eurovision has. Admittedly not as steep a drop but a continued drop nonetheless throughout the years likely for the reasons I mentioned.

I'd be interested in hearing about one off yearly British TV events that have retained a similar viewership throughout the decades.

I'm not saying that we should stop the Eurovision, just give it nil by mouth it's popularity is tanking. The BBC have tried strangling football for years now even their own website only showed a passing interest yet the show still managed 9.1 million viewers on the BBC and we don't know how many watched it on TNT.

The Eurovision song contest gets peak time viewing and is failing , as I said don't stop it by cancelling it, leave it dying until nobody notices it being slipped on to some Welsh channel.
