The Squad planning thread

One thing we need to do is avoid skimping this summer. We only need a few pieces to get back to where we need to be. Buy cheap, you buy twice. We’ve bought cheap since Gundogan left and we’ve certainly bought more than twice. 200m+ on Reijnders, Philips, Nunes (Good RB now but otherwise another midfield flop), and Nico G rather than spending the big bucks on Rice, Bruno G, Joao Neves etc. We now need at least two midfielders to support Rodri.

I would imagine they'll go for Dušan Vlahović. He's out of contract from Juventus in June and that's much more their modus operandi.
If Marmouch was to leave do you think it might be possible you might put a cheeky bid in for MGW. As when I've seen clips of Marmouch he has played off the left hand side is that correct or is he a straight 9 replacement for Haaland.

Not sure. I'm not one of those who wants Marmoush to leave. If anything, I want to see much more rotation and much more of him, not less.
Gibbs-White is a good player and, like Anderson, appears to have huge energy, but personally I'd rather we signed somebody more technical, someone who can also take the weight off Cherki's shoulders. I'd much prefer us to sign Ismael Saibari from PSV.

I think MGW is under rated for his technical ability. I must admit I don't know anything about the player you have mentioned. I seem to have doubts about players coming from the Dutch leagues. We have Sangare who is a great technician but has taken him 3 seasons to adapt to speed and physicality of the prem.

I don't think Gibbs-White is poor, just that Saibari is the kind of player who would be a very good fit this coming season. He is 25 and can literally play across the park because he is technically extremely good. At 1.85cm he is another big unit, which seems to be our preference these days. Would likely take a while to get up to the speed of the domestic game, but he has 24 games in the Champions League and 27 caps for Morocco. Should feature at the World Cup.

I think it’s really important that Pep’s tactics get fine tuned. I’ve never seen us play so many system throughout the season even at the end Pep played a strange system against palace it worked but changing Nunes from overlapping to be part of a back 3, to moving from a midfield 3 to 2, changing Semenyo from allowing him to be in the channels and enter to the box to making him a touchline is he’s got 3 g/a in the last 12 games compared to him scoring almost every game when he started, Haaland not moving outside the box and letting someone else in the box, all these things make us too rigid and predictable. We need to play to each players strengths. Stop playing the 3 striker system it’s never worked. Build the team around Cherki Doku and Haaland. I think we will be fine. Add a creative technical winger and we’re good to go. But we genuinely need to make the players lives easier and give more freedom.

2 goals behind Semenyo, he’s a crazy box crasher who can play in many positions basically does everything we wanted Reinjders to do. No brainer

If you were to get him could you see him just being used in europe and domestic cups in his first season and not included in your initial prem squad prior to Jan. What sort of cost do you think he would be ?

No, any signing for us really has to be included in the bread and butter of the League. No idea about what our homegrown situation will be. PSV are looking for €60-70 million, but that feels fanciful; I would imagine that they hope his World Cup performance boosts his value. PSG are reportedly interested.
