There's not much he could do if he was sacked. None of the important trophies were won the season before he went . It was an ageing side . Guardiola won nothing in his first season here things take some time.
He was virtually unbeaten for a season with Leverkusen.

I'm not unhappy with Maresca but Alonso's record impresses.

If there was a clause in Maresca’s contract that made him inform Chelsea of any contact with City, there’s likely to be a release clause in it too, spelling out how much money it would take to go to City.

That only really leaves tapping up, which all clubs do, so I doubt they’ll pursue that.
