The Rodri dilemma

Nowhere near the player he was before his injury, the odd flash here and there, he's been well looked after during his injury season and this and I don't like them getting into the last year claiming all kinds of Milneresque rubbish.

Time to say thank you for an excellent time at the club but if we can get 20m+ then goodbye

I’ve never got the whole Milner hate. Yes they went on to be our main rivals during the Pep era but Milner moved to them pre Klopp when they were a mid table team. At the time we couldn’t give him the game time he wanted so he took up an opportunity elsewhere.

Always cringe every time I hear fellow blues boo him because he actually comes across as a sound lad.
Milner was given a warm reception the first time he cane back to play against us.
Then just before the 2nd time he slagged us off in an interview and was then booed since then as a direct result of his words.

The state that midfield is in I would keep him and let him walk for free if he wants.
For us the money (if it’s £50m) isn’t really an issue, we have money to spend anyway.

However, how motivated he is to move and would he try to force it. Clearly you don’t want a player there who doesn’t want to be there.

crazy why people would want him to be sold, complete madness. just coz he’s had a slower season returning for long term injury. still had some immense games for us second half of the season & the team looked dramatically better when he was playing more regularly. even if he goes after contract ends that’s fine we don’t need the money. and we get another year of ballon dor level of experience for incoming midfielders. steady the ship after such big exits this year. if he can get solid run of games in he’ll be back to the old rodders. just maybe not ballon dor level which is still good enough for any team in the world

Also, his cringey fucking goal celebration - that's when I really started to despise hime - With that said, think Pellers could've played his cards better with Milner, we could've had a place for him for a long time

What did he say?

The people claiming he isn't the same player simply do not appreciate the recovery period of an ACL injury. It's a 2 year injury, returning to the pitch after a year is the first stage of the recovery, the second part is the re-conditioning, which involves allowing for the inevitable smaller muscle injuries, the gradual re-strengthening of the knee and learning to trust your own body again (something Rodri is miles behind on) being back on the pitch doesn't mean he is back. The people who know, correctly predicted this whole thing last summer and tried to warn those who were claiming we'd have rodri back this season that it wouldn't be the case. Next season is when we can expect him back fit only then can you begin to question whether he is the same player post injury, doing so before is judging him whilst he is still injured.

Some come back in under a year and hit top form straight away like Alan Shearer, and Quinn was fit fot the world cup but Lee wouldn't let him go. Both had the same surgeon (both knees too in the end).

The worst thing people can do is compare their own experience to someone who has had the best health care in the world.

Sell a ballon d'or winner from 2 years ago for between 20 & 50m lol. He will be much improved in August with a rest....
.is he in the Spain squad? Keep him & buy 1 or 2 midfielders..there must be another academy star due to step up...don't forget O'Reilly can play in the middle with Rodri now Gvardiol is back playing.

As he moves to the last year of his contract do we stick or twist.
I dont like players playing the "I've not decided" game as we all know they're going, for nowt. The alternative seems to be sell him now.
He's repaid his fee arguably, but weve paid him very well, particularly in the last two years for very little return.
If he wont sign, I'm tempted to force his hand and sell now as we could actually realise a half decent return. In addition his fitness probs are very apparent.
I accept lots wont agree, theres probably no right answer, and maybe I'm worried about nowt and he resigns. But i doubt it.
If he doesn't re up this Summer ya gotta sell him...

There is no dilemma. He stays, non negotiable. he either signs a new contract or he leaves us in a free next summer. Too much change to even contemplate allowing him to leave this summer too. If Rodri isn't here next season, we could easily have a rocky season and miss out on CL football alltogether, with Rodri, he gets us that even in a bad season, that alone covers any fee we'd get for him.
Very negotiable. Signs a reasonable deal or moves along.

New contract on the table, question is what needs to be written for you to stay.
If acceptable then edit, print and give him the pen.
If it's not decided, need to take some time, blah, blah, blah, then call RM and ask how much will they pay.
If acceptable then goodnight god bless, hasta la vista.

Especially with a change of manager, the rules have to be reset.
Having half-committed players doesn't work.
Agree. After all these years I still don't understand why some insist on putting individual player's interests ahead of those of the club. Not speaking specifically of Rodri, but no one "earns" the right to continue playing at a club with the highest of ambitions if they are past their best as a thank you for past performance.

You’d have sold Stones?

Especially when so much experience has been and probably will be list (thinking Ake, Kova possibly)

It's simple if he wants to stay and Enzo (?) wants him then he signs a new contract
If he doesnt sign then look to sell or accept another season followed by a free is fine
If he doesnt sign but stays there is a whole year to convince him or, decide that he's dispensable due to age

Trust the club to get it right
