Benny Hill certainly was an oddball. Still stayed in his council flat to the very end. Had drawers full of uncashed cheques. Lived very frugally - no luxuries. His only extravagance was foreign trips - usually France - where he would sit in a pavement cafe watching street life which he could incorporate in his act. He didn't have any known normal romantic liaisons but there is some evidence that several Hells Angels were persuaded 'to be nice to him' by giving oral sex.

Me, too. A comic genius. The French gave him an award. Don't know whether it was his comic brilliance or that he surprised them by speaking fluent French.This and The Sweeney are the only entertainment programmes I remember watching with my dad when I was six or seven. Loved watching both with him. Enjoyed laughing with him.

Hoorah for the channel That's TV, who transmit programmes from the sixties to the early 2000s, which might upset some of the more fragile members of society. Mind you, we have to have a warning about various stereotypes, be they racial/gender/religious beliefs, at the start and vaious ad breaks, for each programme. Surely we all know what to expect from Steptoe, TDDUP, Rising Damp, etc, without our hand being held. No-one under the age of 40 will be watching, anyway.Abolutely yes!
Same with On the Buses (Which I didnt like tbh). But we are losing the right to be ridiculous, all tied up in political correctness and social media-big brother telling us what we can and cant like, what we can or cant think. Society is all going very grey, we need the colour of the past back in our lives.
