The Squad planning thread

so

we are swapping Savio with Porro practically

Good thing Levy is gone, dealing with spurs are way easier

Yes but Barcola plays mainly on the left, and Savinho isn't first choice on the right Semenyo is.As good as Barcola is don't think he's what we need to replace Savinho and maybe Marmoush as well.
Agree we have Doku who plays all his game on the left, Semenyo can play both sides (and up top if needed), Foden can play everywhere, Cherki on the right or the middle.

Signing someone like Barcola would hugely limit Doku who is starting to really take off. That said I'm sure Barcola could play both sides but everyone talks about how he's a proper LW.

Really we need a RW to go into the rotation. Personally I hope we get Akliouche.

Wouldn't mind if we signed someone like El Mala either who can play both sides like Semenyo did for Bornemouth.

The issue is his age. If Doku was 28 and still only getting 10 league GA, I wouldn’t be against the move but Wilson plays one game a week, has played way more minutes than Doku and still only has 7 more GA. Doku’s just entering his prime and his floor was 10 GA in the league even with injuries and three games a week.
Wilson wouldn’t have to be playing more than a game a week either and last season was playing in a weaker side. Savinho and Bobb have shown how difficult it is to break through as young players, coming from abroad and from the academy, and we don’t have the time to be patient. We therefore need someone with a bit more experience so as to ease the burden on Doku and Semenyo, someone who is happy to play second fiddle but who can come in and do a 7/10 job every time.

Cant believe people on here want us to go for Harry Wilson

I also be these are the same people who slam Marmoush and/or Savinho

A 29 year old whos finally had a good season in a yea of being a mid-table squad filler, and hes a good move? Really?

You expect Harry Wilson to be able to break down 10 men behind the box?

Bowen? Would give us an added goal threat?

Discussed him earlier. A good player but would cost money and, to me, is likely to remain in London. I liked the idea of someone like Wilson because he was free, comes from the north, of Wales admittedly, and would add that left-footed balance on the right if Savinho departed. In terms of character, he strikes me as the sort that would count his blessings to be getting a shot at titles again so late in his career and not be pouting and running to his agent when not starting.

Another aspect of it is pressure. Wilson has spent majority of his career playing under zero pressure with bad performances going under the radar. Marmoush gets slammed for not playing well when he gets picked once a month against better competition in Haaland and they think Wilson could perform better? He’s 28, this is the best he’ll ever be and playing under no pressure is what he’s accustomed to. He won’t raise the floor or the ceiling of our squad. He’ll be just another bench warmer that threatens nobody’s spot in the starting XI just like Reijnders, who people already want gone.

It wouldn’t be similar to the Fernandinho signing either. Fernandinho was 28 but he wasn’t coming into a squad with strict expectations for the future. Wilson would be coming into a squad that’s won the domestic double and would be looking to retain them as well as additionally winning the league or the UCL.

With Pep gone, the floor of our squad has already gone down. Even if we aren’t targeting the elite players, we need to be targeting players that can actually improve our squad as well as the starting XI.

I suggested Wilson both as a player and as an example of the type of player that we could utilise. If Savinho leaves, as is reported, who is it you recommend we move for? What attributes would they bring and how much would you suggest we spend?

Quite happy for Marmoush and Savinho to remain, if they wish, but if the latter wants to leave, then I would prefer someone dependable (Wilson/Bowen) as third choice over another expensive project brought from abroad.

I also hope that the tempo and style of our play changes to the extent that we're no longer walking it up to the opponent's box and facing their massed ranks.

Attackers we’ve been linked with consistently Kroupi and Diomande. So going off that if Savinho goes I’m guessing we go for one of these.

I reckon Bournemouth will be particularly wary about selling players this summer. They've had significant churn in the last two windows, and with a new manager to bed in and European football this summer as well, I'd be surprised if they sold Kroupi so soon.

Them selling players last summer is apparently the reason Iraola wanted out.

Have admired Bournemouth but think they need to be cautious about next season. Playing in Europe will be a new experience, but it puts extra demands on the squad and can affect League form, so they might be better retaining their players and weathering the year.
