Them too, I need to venture as deeply into Japanese cinema as possible. No Takashi Miike or Kiyoshi Kurosawa?

I'm also really fond of the films of Hiroshi Teshigahara. His first three films, Pitfall (1962), Woman In The Dunes (1964) and Face Of Another (1966) are all avant-garde masterpieces. You'll love 'em.Them too, I need to venture as deeply into Japanese cinema as possible.
Thanks man, sounds like you know your stuff as he's a new name for me. I have screenshotted this and will add them to my watchlist. I've enjoyed the South Asian cinema chat in here! It took me back to when I was reviewing such almost 20 years ago! It was like digging for treasure finding off-beat films to now deemed classic cinema.
I got DEEPLY entrenched into the 'Kozure Okami' ('Lone Wolf and Cub') series which spawned films as well.
Here's the first series on YT:
Also the 'Zatoichi' films and series.
I think the last film I reviewed, to any note, was the mind-blowing "I Saw the Devil" which I HONESTLY thought would be nailed on to get a Western version remake as it suited the Western eye for such violence and gore.
Love that film would be a 10 if whoever wrote it didn't bottle it with the ex wife's part.Falling Down I feel like him most days 7/10
Thanks bud. Glad you have enjoyed it.
I have seen I Saw The Devil - very disturbing film and the serial killer is unhinged.
As for Lone Wolf and CUb - it's always been on my list, though I think I would read the manga first.
There really are so many great Japanese and South Korean films. Also, Mollywood (Malayalam, Indian cinema) has some really good stuff too. It's much darker in tone, its stuff, than other areas of India. Check it out if you haven't yet - only seen a few films so far but can recommend some if you are interested.
Fair enough mate. You should make your way back in. I have some ideas for films. I can post a list here of good looking films that I haven't watched and ones I have that I can recommend, soon. There's all sorts around Japan, South Korea and India especially.Yeah, sure. I'm well off the beat now as I haven't deep dived in a couple of decades!
My older Brothers had the Manga comics but my Ma burned all the original number one issues, across the world of comics, they had in a fit of temper almost 40 years back! I do not want to think about the worth that was lost that day if they were to be sold today!
My stomach flips at the thought of it!
Don’t want to piss you off but have a look on YouTube at some of the comic book finds in the usa, there’s one with a collection and it has a number one detective comics Batman, been there for nearly a hundred years it sold for $650k! A recent number 1 Superman sold for $11 million.Yeah, sure. I'm well off the beat now as I haven't deep dived in a couple of decades!

It's amazing what goes on. The people who buy those have them transported very securely, with all sorts of precautions, and store them in vaults or glass on display and never touch them, terrified of getting a hair of stain on them. Because they're mint from 1938.Don’t want to piss you off but have a look on YouTube at some of the comic book finds in the usa, there’s one with a collection and it has a number one detective comics Batman, been there for nearly a hundred years it sold for $650k! Ah I Ithink I am going to see that later today. Sucks to hear your review - some people been saying it is very good.I watched "Backrooms" last night.
I was really looking forward to it, turned out to be incredibly disappointing.
2/10.
If it's any consolation your stuff maybe wasn't mint or old enough to make that sort of money, lol.Fuck! Off!!
Holy fuck!
I was peeping through the curtains on the first floor back bedroom and I can still see her in my head ranting away, burning the comics in a metal bin in the back yard!! Boxes and boxes of the stuff!
I can't believe it!!

Ah right, maybe they would have been worth something, that's annoying to think about for sure. And I am sorry to hear your brothers are no longer with us.Not sure! Those boys knew what they were doing as I remember tons of them being first prints and in clear bags and me being told 'wash your hands!', 'no fingerprints' on them! All they did, at times, was be out for hours hunting stuff down in little rare comic book shops!
They got me into the comic book and why I pride myself on original stories of the heroes and splitting arcs. The rare, basically, nudey comics as well! It was such a crazy era!
I think comic books were the 'mobile phone' of their time and why my Ma burned them as they were distracting for us! Man, the memories are coming back! Me on my bed with a stack of normal spare comics and my brothers finishing one and passing it over for the other to read! It was a brilliant time!
My Brothers are not here now, but they'd be absolutely spitting about it all knowing the worth of them!

Do you like other regions of cinema too? Nordic, Eastern Europe etc? I have been meaning to get into Nuri Bilge Ceylan and his Turkish films.
Fair enough mate.I haven't managed to venture that far into other cinema too much. I did start with some Hindu and Bangladeshi cinema but, at the time, subtitles were at a premium.
Nordic, I want to get into more, though, for definite.

Myself and the kids always watched the YouTube videos for a long time and couldn't wait for the movie then when we heard it was coming out.Ah I Ithink I am going to see that later today. Sucks to hear your review - some people been saying it is very good.
I will still go today or tomorrow and formulate my own view. Thanks for letting me know though to be cautious.
