Like I said, not speaking for everywhere, I do know that I can hop on I15 at Idaho Falls and drive at 80 for 600 miles plus. Maybe one of the reasons that CA is losing population and people getting out of that over policed and over taxed nightmares. Beautiful State and place but a bureaucratic nightmare, shame

I think the reason it's 65 is more to do with the volume of traffic and the state of the roads rather than the erosion of civil liberties.

I've just bought a big fuck off motor. It has cameras that warn me if anything comes to near, sensors on every corner that warn me, head up display warning if something in front of me isn't moving, auto braking, distance warning, lane cross warning, won't move unless i have a seat belt on, warns when something is coming up on the outside/inside and even tells me off if the stereo is too loud.
Worst drivers on the roads are all in little 2 door motors

The 55 was brought in as a direct result of the oil crisis in the 70s I believe, the reason 70 was brought in over here was after someone drove an etype jag along one of the first motorways at a very fast speed and it was deemed they needed to put a limit on them.

The 55 was brought in as a direct result of the oil crisis in the 70s I believe, the reason 70 was brought in over here was after someone drove an etype jag along one of the first motorways at a very fast speed and it was deemed they needed to put a limit on them.

I think 70 in the UK is probably about right for open motorways and DC's. In more congested areas the traffic actually flows better at lower speed, and where you add pedestrians and other vulnerable road users into the mix 20mph is more than enough, especially in urban areas.

Same with motorbikes. Everytime I see youngsters embarking out on their motorbikes I always say to them, don't trust anyone, keep in mind they're out to kill you.

They always do. I've had many instances, mostly at junctions where they'll either drive out despite seeing traffic approaching, or stop....wait.....and STILL drive out because they think they can 'beat the bike' out.

Couple that with increased mobile phone use whilst driving and i'm not surprised by the increasing number of incidents.

It's true though. The probability is relatively low, and you can use defensive driving techniques to further mitigate the risk, but if your number is up...

I've driven all over the world and America was by far the easiest place. So much space.

I loved driving in America, apart from on the I95 in the Miami area and the I75 near Atlanta.

Six lanes of vehicles, all doing 70mph+ is fucking scary!
