Tried watching Dune, the new version, this afternoon. Lasted about an hour. Tedious and boring

The Twilight Samurai (2002)
In 1860's Japan, a humble low income Samurai nicknamed "Twilight" is thrust into a new role as a single parent due to the passing of his wife and is weighed down with the responsibility of caring for his two daughters and his senile mother. He seeks help from a childhood sweetheart but his sword skills are soon put to the test when he swiftly deals with her abusive ex-husband.
"Twilight" is forced to take up his sword again tasked by a recruiting clan to kill a famous Samurai who has refused to kill himself after his masters death.
Hiroyoki Sanada (Shogun TV series 2024) stars as the reluctant warrior who tries to make ends meet in a deeply moving story about the struggles to balance his personal life with the perceptions of public honour and duty all set in the final days of feudal Japan.
This film is a hidden gem in the Samurai genre, bringing a quiet introspective to the modern Samurai film like what Unforgiven (1992) & The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford (2007) brought to shifting the modern western towards a melancholic meditation of the West.

It's been a while since I've been moved , disturbed, kicked and affected by a film as I was by this 2004 budget offering from Shane Meadows .
Gritty revenge in a northern town.

I'm pretty ignorant of Korean cinema, unfortunately. What would you recommend? I loved "Parasite." Park Chan Wook is on my list, though. I've seen a few Bergman films, maybe five, and I think "Persona" and "The Seventh Seal" are incredible. I'll probably check out "Fanny And Alexander" next, but the theatrical cut is over 5 hours long...!
I'm a fool for any film with metaphysical import, so Andrei Tarkovsky checks just about all the boxes for me. "Solaris" and "Stalker" are mind-blowingly amazing, but very very dense.

Hiroyuki Sanada strikes again...American audiences may remember him from his roles in Lost and Westworld. Ren Osugi has an incredible filmography.

I agree. I've watched both films and I'll probably watch the third. 6 out of 10 for me. Can't see what the fuss is about. There ok, but not great.

A film you'll love or hate. Brilliant acting, specially the young kid.
Nothing cheerful about this film.
The last hour was horrific.
Some films really touch you and this one did.
