Milner - wasn't on our radar. Many were disappointing when it appeared that he'd be THE main signing of the summer. But if we're still getting a striker that's better than what we have now and losing Sterling is not a disaster, then it's reasonable enough to be cautiously optmistic.

I said almost the minute I saw Sterling that he was a player. I've always thought that. Not sure about other City fans. I can't remember there being much debate about Sterling amongst City fans until we were linked.

I have no idea whether this Firminio is any good. I saw before that you were happy with the deals Liverpool are doing. We know the English players: Milner and Ings. Milner will definitely do a good job for you although he is very similar to Henderson. Ings I don't know. Big step up from Burnley. Might be a revelation. He did look very bright for Burnley, on the other hand we bought Jon Macken from Preston who looked good, and it didn't work out well.

I don't think City fans feel anywhere near as strongly about Liverpool as Man Utd do. Any reaction from City fans I think is a reaction to Liverpool fans who don't like to see City in the limelight while they struggle.

Will be interesting to see how Liverpool gel as a team. So many changes over 2 seasons. I think Rodgers will be out of a job by the end of the season. A lot of questions have been raised about his management after last season and his treatment of Sterling. I know he's still your player, but I don't think you could have handled him more poorly if you had tried. Basically driven him into our arms at what will be a good fee for City given his age and talent. It does look very much as if Liverpool are spending the Sterling monies now whatever they might say about these transfers not being dependent on Sterling's sale.

They are being smart. Think about it, if Sterling wants that move then Liverpool in the end would have to accept the 40 million from Chelsea.

Where would he play for Chelsea? The one team in the Premiership who probably wouldn't be improved by Sterling. They sold Schurrle because he couldn't get games. They are really strong in that position

What I meant was that it's City fans that weren't gushing.

Both sets of fans have done a somewhat about turn though - you are fine with 40-50M for (according to you) SWP Mk II, and we are rationalizing unceremoniously pushing out our best prospect since Michael Owen to another team in the league, in true sour grapes fashion.

You are making things up. One or two posters have made the SWP/Lennon comparison, typically since we were linked not before. I just gave you a page of quotes from before we were linked which I would describe as very positive about him.

Anyway, I don't think he'd flourish as well in Chelsea's setup than he would for you. He's tailor made to play with Aguero, Nasri, and Silva.

sterling is the type of player that we have been crying out for ages for

Im not sure why SWP is being looked at unfavourbly as a comparrison...he was awesome for us both times he played here so for me thats an added bonus if he is like that...imagine that sort of skill surrounded by the players we have in Aguero, yaya and silva.

I certainly have no problem in paying whatever we have to pay - thats just the nature of football these days...and if he plays for us for 5-10 years then its completely worth it

Im pretty excitied about getting him tbh as he offers us something completely different to what we have already

Sanchez. We were offering more than Barca, but he put his foot down and said he would only go there. Udinese lost out and had to sell for less.

Completely agree on all points.

I don't even really dislike Liverpool (my enemies enemy is my friend and all that), I'd rather them get top 4 at the expense of the shite. So I hope they spend the money that we (hopefully) give them for Sterling well. . . Not too well, though.

The thing is, though, is they have an annoying propensity for arrogance and a weird, cult-like media darling status. Especially in the season before last.

Personally, I think the general consensus was that he was a good player...the first time I'd noticed him was when you bar stewards beat us at your place 3-2...think from then on and generally we do admire him as a good footballer on the whole (even now not everybody's in this boat)

Couldn't disagree with that. Unfortunately I'd look at Sterling and probably see more potential than SWP. I want this one signed, sealed and delivered as soon as possible so we can move on to the next one. Although I would miss having some new "friends" from Liverpool chiming in with there comments mind. ;)

That's how it is for most City fans. We've come to hate Liverpool so much after last seasons media love in for them and the oversight of how good we were. We went through a bad spell, but we scored more than Liverpool, conceded less than them and were undoubtedly playing the best football last season when on form. As good as Liverpool were at times, we were better when at our best. They bottled it under pressure. Not only with the Chelsea game, but also the collapse at Palace. Meanwhile we showed real grit and determination to fight back and win the league. We deserved more credit.

Agreed, though I think some of it at least is this desperation to portray City as the bad guys. Against everyone Sly et al. seem to want to push this idea that we are (to use a wrestling analogy) the 'top heels'.

But why? Does this anti-City agenda sell more tickets/buy more subscriptions?

I don't think it does anyone any favours to be so against one club. Especially the best in the country. Because if City are so bad, but we win, then it's like underselling your own league. And let's be honest it is Sky's league.

It's mad. I think at least half of Liverpool's cult, media darling image was mediated and cultivated by this strange, pathetic need to paint us as the bad guys.

And we're seeing it play out before our eyes in the media now. And people fall for it! Hell, I even fall for it sometimes! It's so Orwellian/Society of the Spectacle no-body is quite sure what to believe. Which is exactly what the media wants. To keep us all passive.

It's allowed this atmosphere of distrust to bleed so inherently into our psyches we're constantly questioning, but never quite questioning enough, or interrogating the right people!

It's a strange, scary time to be a football fan. Never mind a City fan!
