So we have gone to closing the deals for pogba and sterling to now (maybe part of the transfer strategy) started hard ball for both at the last moment.

Have the objectives changed from winning the league to finishing on the top 4??

Still trust on txiki and co... But confused at this last moment activity

I don't see why we would budge from the £40mil valuation. irrespective of the outcome, I see this transfer as a win win for us.

1. If we get Sterling on our terms we get a HG player and set precedent that we don't throw money around.

2. If we don't get Sterling on our terms, we know we have £40mil burning our pockets and with that money we can get a decent player maybe not HG, and set precedent that we don't throw money around. Also with the addition of unsettling the brodgers camp which might eventually end with us getting Sterling in January or next summer afterall for a lesser fee.

The only thing to lose here is the HG quota, which Sterling is not the be all end all.

The way I see it is for the last couple of weeks we have had, Juve, and the dippers of St Brodgers and their acolytes setting the narrative..think we are flexing our muscles and warning the cultists of the Mersey, and others that the end truly is nigh and the bluemoon doth rise .

Every day a signing isn't available for preseason isn't good. A full preseason can be the difference between a great first season and a less than great first season. And to have them for Australia would have helped a lot.

I have no idea what's happening here. Past windows have shown us that Txiki has managed to do the legwork months before the window is open, so we've managed to get a good number in early in time for preseason. Now, despite months to work on these deals, two of them are at a stalemate and one of them looks promising but still isn't guaranteed (De Bruyne). Bigger deals do take more time but nothing seems imminent at all.
The truth is mate no one knows where we are. We can brief the media what ever we like it doesn't have to be the 100% truth. Hopefully they'll be in soon.

Think it's time Sterling put a transfer bid in, just to rubber stamp his intentions, and get this sorry mess sorted, as it's now getting ugly, we don't want him being bullied into a u-turn, a la Rooney, Gerrard, with hooded menaces outside his house at 2am.
No wonder he doesn't want to turn up to training, his head will be anywhere but wanting to get on a plane for 12hrs with Red Brenda and his squeaky voiced minions!

I gather we haven't budged from the 35m + 5m addons and that a fair price seeing that if hasn't left by deadline day Sterling price will plummet rapidly

We had plenty of comments on here saying we wouldn't or shouldn't haggle over a 'few million' a week ago.

However this seems like exactly what the club is doing with the Sterling and the Pogba deals showing money is not infinite enough to give into every demand.

This could be a positive for the Sterling deal because FSG and Bodgers are taking a huge risk with us being the only buyer at this point and an unhappy player left at the club. We're in a good position and they aren't.

The club are absolutely right on their stance here. The player wants to go, is refusing to train, travel on tour, play for the manager and made it abundantly clear that he won't be signing a new deal. So why would we rashly go in with a 50m bid? Liverpool won't keep him around the place for much longer as his position is already nearing untenable.
Their only option is to accept our 35+5million bid and get him out of there. This puts us in a great position as we save 15 or so million which can greatly help us with regards to Pogba and KDB.
I know the headline regarding us refusing to bid again for Sterling is alarming at first but we simply don't need to bid again.

You are 100% spot on, although it won't stop the flock of flappers flapping on here

A Liverpool fan talking shit, who'd a thunk it. His agent is doing his job. His first loyalty is to his client and not to LFC. As unpalatable as it might be, you cultists need to accept that Sterling and his agent have done nothing wrong. Liverpool underpaid him, then made it public and then used their former players to drag Sterling's name through the mud for wanting what every player wants. A chance to win things and be paid what he's worth. Liverpool are a busted flush. You've had your day, you are the past. A fading club run by shysters and managed by a shiny toothed charlatan.
I can't wait to watch Sterling score against you at Klanfield and run the full length of the pitch before sliding on his knees in front of the kop like Adebayor did.

You're probably right, but I still think Liverpool are the type of club (management, board and fans) that have that 'divine right', 'self righteous' and 'cut their nose off to spite their face' mentality and attitude that I wouldn't think it completely beyond them to keep hold of Sterling.

So are we any closer to signing anyone, or still a million miles away?. Can't believe we've made very little headway yet for any of our main targets.

Could you imagine if this was the other way around? I mean if it was us that is threatening him with training with the reserve.

There would be a nationwide appeal, #SaveSterling. Hodgson would be getting in touch with Geldof to get a song going.
