Otamendi

You think he's going to walk into defence if Vinny and Mangala play like they did yesterday?

They won't though. Mangala has made a lot of progress but yesterday was the perfect game for him, exactly like last year. He's still weak against strikers who aren't interested in the physical battle, and will make runs in behind him.

So we are going with Kompany, Mangala, Demi and Otamendi this year, loan Denayer out again and if Demi goes next season bring Denayer back in?
Denayer won't be happy going out on loan again. Pretty sure we had to fend off a number of clubs when tying him down to a new contract. He's ready now. Bringing in Otamendi, as good a player as he is, is only going to throw a spanner in the works. If it ain't broke don't fix it and all that

People say such stupid things on here.

Denayer would obviously have been made aware of our intentions defensively in the market before signing his new deal. Or do people really think we promised him the earth, got him to sign a new deal, then signed a defender anyway to push him out of the picture completely?

Whatever City's plans are for Denayer, they will reveal themselves in time.

With the news that Mangala is staying, I wonder if there will be apologies from all of the transfer forum knee-jerk wankers for their pathetic meltdowns earlier?
Would be better if we all accept that people will rant on a football forum, sometimes they'll be justified rants. Sometimes they won't.

This never ending cycle of "I told you so's" really adds nothing to the board, neither does an apology from someone for having an opinion.

This guy seems a fucking tank. We will have the best defence in the league if he signs so much depth and class. He seems like a decent guy aswell which is always nice.

A guy at work reckons Otamendi is also capable of playing defensive midfield, ala Demichelis.
Don't know if that is true or not, but if he does have versatility then it's another plus.

He may have the attributes to play in midfield - he's definitely good on the ball, but he's 27 and hasn't played there before.

Denayer is only 20. He'll do what he's told to. And a year of playing for a strongish La Liga team will do his game wonders. He's potentially got another 15 years ahead of him and he's got a good contract in place with City. I think it would suit all parties for him to go over there.

IF mangala is staying then I'm happy to hold my hands up and say I overreacted. I was drunk and just witnessed the best defensive performances from city under Pellegrini and was sensitive to the centre partnership being ripped up after it's finally settled.

As Ive said before Demi is a midfielder now. 10 minute cameos in front of the defence to kill games and pack the midfield will be the story of his season. Denayer will get the chances he deserves
