Otamendi

I don't think I've ever watched him, but if he's as good as people on here and pundits all say he is, then with Vinny, Otomendi and Mangala, and a young hungry Denayer who will push them all and be breathing down their necks, I'd say we have one of the best central defensive line ups/options in world football. In fact, can anyone other than Real Madrid boast anything better?

I see MDM playing the Lampard/Pizzaro/Viera role of recent seasons within the squad, where we have an extremely experienced player who bridges the gap between management and players, and is used sparingly on match days (albeit with great effect when used) in midfield to close out games and as backup in defence if needed, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him stay on as a coach when he hangs up his boots in a year or two.

Get Otamendi and De Bruyne in and we may just have a Champions league semi-final squad on our hands - and if you're in the semi, who knows what could happen.

Got a feeling this could be our year.

What a fucking window this is tuning into. Oatamendi - an already world class centre half. What a signing. Total cover in this position with no weak link.

If rumours are right, Otamendi already in Manchester?...sounds like we offered alittle more money as didnt want to include Mangala loan in the deal...

Manchester City will compensate Mangala absence with more money than the offered 40M euro, according to La SER.

BREAKING: Otamendi last night traveled to #MCFC while Valencia are still counting on Mangala, according to the most reliable @Generaldepie_.

40m was more than fair imo

We shouldn't be looking at offloading Mangala on loan contrary to what people believe on this forum he has been our most consistent defender in the last 12 months. If anything I would be looking at loaning Denayer to them for a season as he is certainly our future and I think 1 more year at a decent European club would only reap rewards for us in years to come.

Here's a thought - Kompany was purchased as a midfielder so if this transfer works out and we keep Mangala we could use Kompany as a defensive Midfielder.

It's a thought that a few have voiced, and it needs putting to bed once and for all. There is absolutely ZERO chance of Kompany being deployed as a defensive midfielder, none whatsoever. He's a centre half, that's it. Speculating about him being played in midfield is just a waste of time and effort.

Now that managla isn't going anywhere then it's a top signing and defence will be as strong as an ox. If he signs with KdB then it will be a top window and txiki has done well, very well.

Next summer all we need is a quality LB and centre mid

Be a decent emergency one (like DM)

I think rotation of partnerships is the name of the game here.

Otamendi and Mangala had a great partnership at Porto, and I bet the 2 Belgians in Kompany and Denayer will form a similar partnership. This means we can rotate them at will and have 2 separate world class defensive pairings. Great signing

Skysports just did a great report on Otamendi....and how he compares to Mangala. Positioning and pace were the two big things they said Otamendi had over Mangala.....absolutely great signing if this happens.......even Sky were loving out transfer business!!....which is a shock coming from sky! he! De Bruyne and Otamendi would be perfect business to close the window...

I can get the positioning thing, but Otamendi must be like lightning if he's quicker than Mangala, as he's no slouch.

Assuming demi is leaving... we have essentially having what Pellegrini always wanted genuine 2 class players in each position.. And the way we have started, genuinely believe we will do well in All 4 competition including the Champions League!!

I'm sure, if we were struggling, he could do a short term job there, but we'd need to be down to the bare bones. Contemplating playing Kompany as a defensive midfielder in order to fit him, Mangala and Otamendi in the same team isn't something there's much value in though.
God no, it would be injury crisis stuff but we have a lot of players that are versatile which is always a plus.
